By accounts I've read, he's a "great locker room guy."

What year is that photo from? It doesn't matter. Thomas Davis does not age.

This is a nice get! Not quite what he was, but he makes us better! 80 tackles in only 12 games last year ? I'm sure the staff vetted this out. Any contract details ? It HAS to be 1 maybe 2 years...............

This feels similar to when Takeo Spikes joined the Bolts. Veteran LB that is a solid guy, good teammate and has a good year or two left to go.

I like this signing and here's why:
2018 - 79 tkls/ 12 games: 6.5 tkls/gm 2017 - 76 tkls/15 games: 5 tkls/gm 2016 - 106 tkls/ 16 games: 6.5 tkls/gm 2015 - 105 tkls/ 16 games: 6.5 tkls/gm 2014 - 100 tkls/ 15 games: 6.5 tkls/gm 2013 - 123 tkls/16 games: 7.5 tkls/gm 2012 - 105 tkls/ 15 games: 7 tkls/gm
In 7 seasons - 105/112 games played = 93% of games played In 7 seasons - 694 tkls/ 105 games played = 6.5 tackles made per game (Numbers are rounded)
Based on these stats, what sticks out to me is the fact that since the age of 30, he has shown consistency in playing full seasons or at least almost a full season throughout these past years as well as his consistency to be around the ball and making tackles which is what we need. I know a lot of people are looking at his age and obviously it is a concern that is warranted. We can see that he's had a couple down years in 2017 and 2018 but he still shows that he can play the run and be a stalwart in a defense.

Interesting... The stats that he posted from NFL Network is different than what is shown on the NFL website. Either way... the guy produces results

Davis should be a good mentor for our two promising rookies from last years draft, Nwosu and White.

A little more than three years ago, Thomas Davis was given the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award. The Carolina Panthers linebacker is an inspirational story, someone who overcame multiple ACL tears to become one of the best linebackers in football.
Now he’s asking for the benefit of the doubt.
Davis took the unusual step of announcing he has been suspended four games for failing the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs. In a video he posted on social media, Thomas said it was not for steroids or HGH, but for an estrogen blocker. Those type of supplements are easily available over the counter. Whatever Davis took is also banned by the NFL, though he said he has taken the same supplements for seven or eight years without a problem.
But he said his “conscience is clear,” and asked fans to believe him when he said he didn’t knowingly take a banned substance.
“In no way would I ever do anything, like I said, to cheat this game or to try to create a competitive advantage over anybody,” Davis said in the video, which the Panthers retweeted. “I’ve always tried to do things the right way.
“Just know, in no way – in no way – have I done anything intentionally to try to cheat this game.”

Good player near the end of his career. Davis had stated intent to retire last year. Guess not. He should make us better in 2019. Not an answer long term. At least the usual fall off on defense when Perryman goes out shouldn't happen in the coming season.

Is this suspension for the upcoming season ? If so, I can't wait to see the contract numbers.
