He's a good veteran player on a cheap contract. It doesn't solve our problem at LB but it gives us some more depth.

Great deal for us! CAR: WILL-MIKE-SAM Shaq Thompson-Luke Kuechle-Thomas Davis. LAC: WILL-MIKE-SAM Kyzir White-Denzel Perryman-Thomas Davis. Uchenna to LEO#2. Myles Jack, who one would think of as a classic WILL, started as a SAM and moved to MIKE. Lots of moving parts.

TD at SAM. I like it.

An article on Thomas Davis

One thing that should be pointed out is that Thomas Davis not only can tackle, he can COVER. 52 passes defensed and 13 picks in his career. Emmanuel was always a liability in coverage. Well, we just took care of that issue. For an old dude, Davis still appears to have some gas left in the tank...

Here are the details of his contract as reported by Tom Pelissero. Two years, $10.5 million with $5.25 million guaranteed in 2019. Thomas gets $1 million in roster bonus due next march, write this down.....He'll never see that 1 million dollar roster bonus next March. 1 year rental. So Freak, are you saying, "There's no way in Hades Davis plays two years???"

This is getting common. 2 years, X money. Then half of X is guaranteed. Roster bonus for year 2, but they cut them prior to the bonus date. He's a one year rental. At his age, that's what they get. The player gets theirs in the first half, and the team gets their "option" in the second half. If the team has the need for him the second year, he's already under contract.

Yeah, but that is a LONG career. That's not even a pick a year for him. LOL

HA. Great call. Big ol' Mebane weighs in !!!! Okung as well!! Although only a short-term solution, I like the TD signing very much!! I remember one CMB’er who was all over Davis as the next great NFL safety! Excellent player, wrong NFL position analysis!! That would have been a precursor to the “move Jammer to safety” movement. Oh, what might have been back in the day, but better late than never!! Another good call. Go Okung !!! Gotta love a big ol giant LT that negotiates his own contracts ?!?!?!?!?!?!

You could be right there, Freak, but if Davis plays well, the Bolts might keep him an extra year until they can draft/sign FA LB help...in the meantime, they just improved their LB depth, and as I said, Davis can cover...need more fast, sure-tackling COVERAGE LB's...(if we're gonna beat the Cheatriots)...

Has my Earl Thomas and Suh been signed by the Chargers yet ? Rumor is that ET is going to the browns. Not sure about Suh. Either way TT need to get us some beef on the interior D-line in FA. Every year he ignores it and every year our pass rush looks horrible when it matters. Will he finally make a splash this year at DT?

So we resigned Perryman who is injury prone as heck and added a guy who is 35. So far we are good at depth at LB positions. I'd like to see an impact FA signing for the defense - a game changer. Davis will probably be good for the younger guys, but i doubt he makes a huge impact at this point in his career. Still a decent signing for the price.
