Team sources say Philip Rivers may not play for Chargers in 2020. With no extension talks planned, decline in play & Rivers’ lack of interest in promoting LA.. Could be critical elements moving forward & team inclined to go in a different direction. Per Jason Lacanfora So the guy that cleans the offices crossed paths with TT one evening and simply asked: Will Rivers be the QB next year? TT being nice to all staff responded: Maybe, maybe not.....we have really had any extension conversations yet. Then the kid adds in his own take on Rivers' decline in play, and that Rivers never seemed to like it here in Carson.....Bam! Jason adds his twist about the team's inclinations and out with a huge scoop he comes.......media crap. doesn't the fact that I'm reading it on the internet make it true?

I’m stealing this from another forum/post but it shows the decade of mediocrity we’ve experienced since LT left. No AFC west titles, a couple of wild card win that flamed out in the divisional round. Read it and weep. 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. 4 straight AFC West titles. LT was face of franchise. League MVP in 2006. They went 13-3 in 2009, LT final season with Bolts. 2010-2019. Not a single AFC West title. And only 1 season in a decade of 10+ wins in regular season. The franchise has under performed during Rivers time here. Rivers late close game one possession situational football has not been good enough to get just 1 more win to boost some of those 9-7 years to 10-6. 2010 9-7 2011 8-8 2012 7-9 2013 9-7 2014 9-7 2015 4-12 2016 5-11 2017 9-7 2018 12-4 2019 4-7 if my math is correct that is combined 76-79 regular season record for the last decade. No AFC West titles. That is not 1st ballot hof numbers to go with all his passing stats. Been asking for a few season to spend a 1st on a QB. As the Rivers era just could not seem to get over the hump and win the divison anymore and Rivers was closer to the end of his career than the beginning. 3 HCs & 2 GMs and various rosters somehow just wasnt quite the right recipe for success. Some of the more talented squads during the decade seemed to under achieve as well. Plenty blame to go around to question the car and crew setting up the driver for success. But for me in a QB driven league. Rivers driving simply wasn't good enough. It was very very good, sometimes great and even amazing. But never consistently great. Up and down. And, IMO, it was sometimes spastic and out of control. It is what it is. You are what your record says you are. Solid take Moe. What drives you bat crap crazy is last year. He looked like Joe Montana last year, just really great. Then the very next year........ The hardest thing for a team to do is know when a QB has hit the age wall, or just a bad year. That is super super hard to do. Freak Prediction: The rest of the season has to play out. But what Rivers has going for him is our roster. Its too good to try and replace him now. We're boxed in by our own talent. This isn't Miami, Cincy, Jets where you have to have a rebuild. (keep an eyeball on Jets future. They get to draft again and have a lot of cap space for free agency. Could they................hmmmmmmm) I would say they will extend Rivers. We would have to mortgage the draft to move up for a QB. And just who would that be ??

You have to think PR wants a ring just like anyone else that has played a HOF career like he has. Most of the pieces are there. Just think if we didn't have the injuries we have; James, okung, pouncy, perryman etc. He will be back, for a reasonable amount IMO.

Blaming Rivers solely is a colossal mistake in analyzing this season's results. Rivers has certainly been a part of it, but when considering the fixes to the many contributing to this, replacing the franchise QB seems like a big mistake. Unless the decision is complete rebuild, then Rivers' costly contract would be the first to go. Oh, another thing, quit wasting a late round draft pick on a QB. When Rivers is done, roll with Taylor and use 1st rd picks until you find the next franchise QB......

Go all in on fixing this OL group.......sign 2-3 via FA, 3-4 or more via draft.....bring in a bunch of UDFA's as well. Fix the OL, you will fix Rivers and the offence.

And pick Who at QB ?
LSU ? IS he PRO READY ?
TUA !!! Glass that has an hour of protection in the pocket. 3 first round WR's on that team.
Who who who ? Your fear of not naming a QB in the draft has Rivers laughing all the way to the bank. Cha Ching. Ring the register.
He can easily make 2-3 million per interception.

I'm sure the same was said for all the no name QB's that became stars in the league... Just because they are not draftnik analyzed to death doesn't mean they are not out there. Truth is you never know who is pro ready and who is not...

"Fixing it for 2020: What would you do?"
As an owner, I would get a read on Phillip. If Rivers is ready to retire then clean out the front office starting with TT and put all staff/coaches on notice that they need to reapply to keep their jobs. For the players I would pay Bosa and rebuild both lines. Draft Rivers replacement in 2020 or tank the season and draft the QB in 2021.
If Phillip wants to play, then resign him. Put the front office and coaches on notice that 2020 is the year, or else... For players, same moves. Pay Bosa, rebuild both lines, and draft Rivers' replacement.

We can't draft a freakin Guard in 7 years of trying, and we are going to not only nail a QB with one shot, but pick out a darkhorse in the field............................................................I just don't think I am feeling that.
