In this normally boring time of year we Charger fans actually had several exciting events- Rivers leaving, Brady to LA rumors, Ekeler signing, the Okung trade, etc.
All this information on the Chargers and the rest of NFL (add rumors & misinformation) have given us some indication of what players our team may add this season.
With free agency like exactly one week away, and then the draft about a month later I think we should post our predictions of what the Bolts will do, and what we (individually) want to see happen, specifically on the starting QB vacancy.
Do you think Brady comes here? Do you want him too? Do we draft Herbert? Do we land Tua? Bridgewater? Roll with Tyrod? Promote Stick???
Some of you don't like 'going on record' and some prefer to just bash everyone else's opinions, but c'mon- what else is there to do this week? We aren't traveling anywhere!
Here's mine:
I think the Chargers will fill the QB spot by drafting Herbert at #6. I've posted that I don't necessarily want this, but I'm beginning to think it's likely. What I want, is for the team to roll with Tyrod Taylor instead of signing ANY veteran or drafting a rookie, so that the cap space can be spent on free agents to fill holes elsewhere (esp OL) and the #6 pick on Simmons or Okudah or Brown.

I agree with your preferred choices of action......
Roll with Taylor, Draft Simmons.....Okudah or Brown....or an OT I guess.
I think TT takes Herbert......pray he doesn't reach for Love, or sign any FA QB.

I think TT will not go for a QB in free agency. Everyone will be mocking them to grab a QB at pick six, including other teams. This may create a scenario where another team trades ahead of the Chargers to grab Herbert. The Chargers will pass on a QB at pick six and should be sitting pretty to go BPA with Simmons, or Okudah, or Brown or a great OT. The Chargers will try to pick up Love Hurts or Fromm with the second round pick (maybe trade back into the first).

I still think we will draft a OT at 6 and either trade back into the 1st maybe target Buffalo's pick at 22 and grab Love if not then take Fromm in the 2nd round. Either way Tyrod will start at least the 1st 6 games if not more while the rookie learns the system ala Rivers.

If all this talk about needing to sell tickets and gain significance in LA is true then there are two options that move the needle:
Sign Tom Brady or draft Tua Tagovailoa.
Brady is old, too expensive and hated by many long-term Chargers fans (especially me). Yes, he would bring in many of the LA surfer dude type bandwagon fans but at a huge financial cost. The move will also alienate many San Diego Chargers fans.
Tua will sell tickets, boost popularity in LA, and get the Bolts into some prime-time games. The cost is a few later round draft picks, and seems worth it to me.
I want the same thing that I think the Chargers do. I strongly believe they should and will trade up to spot 3 or 4 and draft Tua. You immediately have a potential franchise QB with a name big enough to sell tickets and increase popularity in LA without the Brady price tag. This could be the silver lining after losing Rivers.
Not to mention, I didn't spend 5 minutes of my life learning how to spell Tagovailoa for nothing!

Tyrod Taylor game manager extraordinaire... If they roll with Taylor, it should be interesting to see what Lynn does in creating a running game. Just how much run/pass option type stuff gets incorporated into the scheme.

Not to mention, I didn't spend 5 minutes of my life learning how to spell Tagovailoa for nothing! Having Tua doesn’t guarantee prime time games whatsoever. This is also contingent on if he even plays this year. Bringing in Tom Brady would probably do the opposite. Yea he is old but he has a winning pedigree behind him and if anything would spark fans excitement in knowing that now we would have a greater chance to make it into the postseason. The city of LA wants winners and known winners. Look at what Lebron did for the lakers and their fan base. It would be a similar situation if Brady were to come to LA. This isn’t to say that I don’t want Tua but I think you’re putting too much stock into Tua saving this franchise in terms of boosting sales and fandom. Sure he won at Alabama, but this LA market doesn’t care much unless you win in LA or are a proven winner on a national stage.

I did not say that. Brady would be more prime time games. But Tua would also lead to some as well, he is arguably the biggest name coming out of college this year.

Marcus Mariota. Won’t break the bank. West coast ties. Falls perfectly under the TT mid level FA umbrella. Great athlete (ran a 4.48 40) that Lynn can proclaim will complete with Tyrod for the starting QB job. Not sexy but relatively low risk high return FA.

I would need to look into why he wasn’t successful in Tennessee. Injuries right?
