After my conversation with Moe in the Cheatriots thread, I decided to look into whether the 1994 Miami - San Diego game is online ... and it is.
During this self-exile time, here's a thread for posting old games and highlight segments (preferably the ESPN Primetime highlights with Berman and Jackson.

I only watched it once, when it happened, but I seem to remember a few questionable calls that went the Chargers way. I think one was involving a Saftey, and another was involving a Natrone TD Run. It would be interesting to re-watch and see if I still feel that way...

It would be interesting to re-watch and see if I still feel that way... There were some horrendous calls that went the Dolphins way as well: Keith Jackson’s “forward pass” 25 yards downfield when he was hit when trying to lateral that negated a Chargers fumble recovery inside the Dolphins 40 in the 4the quarter (get a load of Ross’ face when the officials were explaining the call to him), and Shawn Jefferson’s 37 yard reception for an apparent TD late in the game where it was called incomplete because he didn’t have both feet in (replays showed he tapped down) and Humphries threw an INT on the next play. Horrendous calls on both sides led to the reinstatement of instant replay rules that had been abandoned a few years earlier. This game is the definition of a roller coaster: so great one moment, infuriating the next, with the final turn being a sweet one! 🍺

LOL, check the Pats thread and never doubt my memory again Damn, I was RIGHT!! Check out the 1:23:08 mark of the game. 4th and goal at the one, Means goes left to the pylon, loses it and it bounces off the pylon. Should have been Dolphins ball at the 20. Instead, Dolphins ball at the 1/2 yard line. Next play, run-stuffing safety by Reuben Davis. 21-8 with the Chargers getting the ball back on the free kick. Moe, you had me doubting myself, but nope ... despite all the damage to my cranium over the course of my rugby career, this one stuck. [EDIT] In the telecast after the apparent safety, the NFL official explained that since you can't fumble forward on 4th down (in January 1995), the ball goes back to where the fumble occurred. They must have changed that rule shortly after this season ended. BTW This is a GREAT football game with some great players on both sides of the ball!

And around the 1:53:00 mark is Keith Jackson's "illegal forward pass".
Yeah, the Dolphins had a few really bad calls against them in the game, but I still believe that they came out even over the balance of the game if not on the positive side of the ledger.

The safety might have been allowed to take your head off back then.

Either that or the Crown Royal is finally taking its toll. I can remember something like this from over 25 years ago, but can’t remember if I took my meds a few hours ago.

I don’t remember that play, but when I re-watch I’ll try to find a reason to make an excuse on his behalf. At the time, I didn’t really care about either team (I was an Oilers fan), but that game left an impression on me. Didn’t Stoyanovich have a Kaeding-esque game too ? Natrone was a beast that year. Watching him and the Keith’s will be worth it alone, for me...

I was saying I remembered something involving a safety being a controversial call, and that’s exactly what it was. The Dolphins should have had a touchback (or so I thought), but instead ended up with the ball in a position which got the Bolts a Safety. The 2 points from that controversial Safety ultimately decided the game.

Lots of great players in that game, and for me the early to mid 90’s were my favorite time for NFL football.
