I wish we could have kept him as a backup honestly. I join you in that wish. We have have taken a step back at 2nd string quality, as it stands today.

I think it's best that Taylor moves on to another team, and this has nothing to do with him as a player or person. Because of the situation Lynn caused when Taylor was suddenly injured and Herbert started for him in the first game, and then the next, and then the next while Lynn named Taylor the 'unquestioned' starter as soon as he recovered- which of course never happened and rightfully so- must have made for an awkward QB room then and probably going forward. Taylor by all accounts was a great team mate, leader, and pro... but both sides may prosper better elsewhere versus any lingering feelings. (I blame Lynn.) And I made a post weeks ago about the importance of getting a good backup QB from all the veteran Free Agents- Fitzmagic would be my preference but may cost a fortune relative to the clipboard holder role.

Stick works for a backup. He won’t win the SB, but neither do 31 of 32 starters.

Clean as much house as possible, eh ? I'm ok with that. Did you disagree with our 2nd string quality took a step back ?

Taylor is also a proven placeholder starting QB. Both can be true. Is that just for teams expecting to be below .500? askingforafriend Taylor has a 24-21-1 record as a starter for the dynastic 2015-17 Bills, 2018 Browns and 2020 Chargers squads, including QBing the 2015 Bills squad to their first playoff berth in almost two decades. He’s among the best backups in league and is an established placeholder QB who is capable of earning W’s when pressed into action. He is not somebody you can build your franchise around.

Does Herbert's backup feel like its true while he's cleaning out his locker to fly to Detroit to be Goff's backup ? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I'm going with no. No he doesn't. Is there a starting job available pre-draft in 2021? Just like in 2019, you take what you can get. The plan in 2020 was for Taylor to hold a place for Herbert until Herbie was ready. That’s what I mean by serving as a capable placeholder QB, just as he was in Cleveland for Mayfield in 2018 before being injured. I can see where Taylor views Detroit as his best option under an offensive coordinator with whom he had his greatest success and where the starter struggled a great deal in 2020.

I’ve known that for the better part of a decade. Do you Stick with Stick, or go get our Boy Wonder a better back up ? I wouldn’t spend any real money or draft capital on another QB, so I guess I stick with Stick. Hopefully he can get a lot of game action this preseason after getting none in 2020.

It appears clubs are getting real serious about this cap situation, and how best to manage it. Similar to NHL, there will be plenty of talented players looking for job, and I believe some players will be shocked at offers available to them.

Hopefully he can get a lot of game action this preseason after getting none in 2020. If he gets the number 2, he's guaranteed more action--camps, pre-season, work with teams 1-2, etc. I wonder if they won't get a vet though ?
