The family of late wide receiver Vincent Jackson has told detectives they believe he suffered from chronic alcoholism and concussions, the Hillsborough County (Florida) Sheriff's Office said in a statement Wednesday. Jackson, 38, was found dead in a Florida hotel room Monday and his death is being investigated by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office alongside the sheriff's office. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said in its statement that it could take several weeks before it is determined what led to Jackson's death, adding, "... the exact cause and manner of Mr. Jackson's death will not be certain until his autopsy, among other reports, is complete." The sheriff's office said there were no apparent signs of trauma when Jackson's body was found Monday. ESPN has attempted to contact Jackson's family for comment. According to staff Homewood Suites in Brandon, Florida, Jackson, who is a South Tampa resident, checked into the hotel on Jan. 11 and had been staying in a room since that date. Jackson's family reported him missing on Wednesday and a formal report was filed Thursday, but police located Jackson at the Homewood Suites on Friday. The missing persons case was canceled after Jackson's well-being was confirmed. Jackson last played in the NFL in 2016 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team with which he spent the final five seasons of his career. He is ranked fourth in franchise history with 4,326 receiving yards and 10th with 268 receptions. He played his first seven seasons with the Chargers, who selected him in the second round (61st overall) of the 2005 draft. He is tied for eighth in franchise history for touchdown receptions (37) and is 10th in receiving yards (4,754). www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30918388/ex-wr-vincent-jackson-had-alcoholism-police-say CTE again?  CTE again? Would not surprise me Or just poor life choices... I have a feeling that VJ had a few demons inside that alcohol may have temporarily eased. Throw in concussion issues that many NFL players deal with post-retirement and you have a recipe for destruction. Alcoholism is not uncommon for those dealing with depression. đ

I would have thought the Bolts would at least throw a bone his way.
On Wednesday, Watt revealed his thoughts on his free agency and it's not surprising, to say the least.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts are reportedly among the teams interested in Watt.
The former Texan wants to play for a Super Bowl contender, so the Chiefs, Bills and Packers might be more likely destinations than the Browns, Titans and Colts. However, Watt is reportedly "seriously considering" the Browns because "they have a lot of what he wants."
According to BetOnline.ag, the Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Packers, Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys are the five most-likely landing spots for the Wisconsin native.

Ex-Buc Vincent Jackson suffered from chronic alcoholism, sheriff says Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a radio interview that the family also suspects CTE. TAMPA â Former Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson suffered from chronic alcoholism and other health issues prior to being found dead in a Brandon hotel room, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said Wednesday. In addition, Jacksonâs family has concerns that he may have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a progressive and fatal disease associated with concussions, Chronister said during an appearance on the M.J. Morning Show on Q105. However, Jacksonâs family said in a statement later in the day that Chronister had no authority to speak for them: âSheriff Chronister does not speak on behalf of the Jackson family. The full autopsy report will not be available for weeks. Our focus right now is on laying Vincent to rest.â Jackson, 38, was found dead Monday after a 911 call from the Homewood Suites in Brandon, where he had been living since Jan. 11. A few days prior to his death, the Hillsborough County Sheriffâs Department executed a missing persons report and interviewed Jackson at the hotel. At around 11:30 a.m. Monday, a housekeeper found Jackson unresponsive in his room and called 911. âWe got the autopsy report back that is going to be released today,â Chronister said during his radio appearance. âUnfortunately, he suffered from chronic alcoholism. Again, just tragic. We havenât gotten the toxicology report back, so canât say with any certainty that was it. But a lot of longstanding health conditions that contributed to his passing because of some alcohol abuse.â Jackson, 38, was found dead Monday after a 911 call from the Homewood Suites in Brandon, where he had been living since Jan. 11. Based on statements made by relatives of Jackson to detectives, his family had reason to believe he may have suffered from chronic alcoholism and concussions, however the exact cause and manner of Mr. Jacksonâs death will not be certain until his autopsy, among other reports, is compete.â Jackson was as well known for his charitable efforts in the community through his Jackson in Action 83 Foundation that helped military families as for his accomplishments on the field. The foundation will continue, even without its creator. âAgain, just tragic,â Chronister said. âThirty-eight years old, and to have the impact he had on this community. He would never say no. Heâs the person you would call and say, âHey, I have something we want to do for a child in need, a family in need, a military member in need,â and he was always there. I donât know how he balanced the schedule.â www.tampabay.com/sports/bucs/2021/02/17/sheriff-ex-buc-vincent-jackson-suffered-from-chronic-alcoholism/

I had the pleasure to meet Vincent on two occasions, I was invited to a couple of closed practices and both times I spoke to him briefly. The first thing that stood out was his size, he was a HUGE WR. The other thing that stood out was the humility, he had a deep voice soothing voice, and the kid looked like a movie star. Itâs so tragic that he fell into the drug thing, god bless him and may he rest in peace. Which closed practices did you attend? At the invitation by Joel for the CMB, I attended a few during the 2005-2009 seasons, one of which was followed by a discussion with Jim Steeg & Mark Fabiani regarding stadium issues. I was also fortunate enough to attend the Junior Seau âgraduationâ / retirement ceremony in 2006 (only for Junior to unretire a few days later when he signed with the Patsies). Getting back to the subject, I didnât get the opportunity to speak with VJ, but I remember him in the same way that you do. So does the voice of the Chargers during the Boss Ross years. The foundations that VJ and his wife founded provided support to military families when active duty military personnel are deployed overseas. I was there for the Steeg/Fabiani presentation, closed practices, and several other events including the uniform unveiling. I was invited to all that stuff by Jim Steeg. But this is about action jackson, and my heart goes out to his loved ones, this is incredibly sad

Would not surprise me While I wouldnât be surprised by that, there is something to be said for mental health in general. On my dadâs side one of his sisters and a nephew committed suicide in their early 20s and neither played football. That said, if their is already a family history in place, repeated head trauma from playing football probably doesnât help the situation.

A preliminary medical examinerâs report indicates Vincent Jackson likely died days before he was found in his Tampa hotel room, according to WFLA news. The death of the former NFL receiver was reported Monday. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner Department said staff members at the hotel entered Jacksonâs room on Feb. 13 and Feb. 14. But they assumed he was sleeping after finding him sitting slouched over on the couch and left. Hotel staff members became concerned Feb. 15 âwhen they found [him] in the same position.â Jacksonâs family reported him missing on Feb. 10, and, according to the new report, deputies confirmed Jacksonâs well being Feb. 11. The Hillsborough County Sheriffâs Office said earlier this week deputies canceled the missing persons report after checking on Jackson at the hotel Feb. 12. So it is unclear whether deputies made contact with Jackson on Feb. 11 or Feb. 12. Either way, it appears Jackson died at least two days â and maybe more â before he was pronounced dead. The medical examinerâs office has yet to determine Jacksonâs exact cause of death. Jacksonâs family donated his brain for a study on CTE, a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma, The New York Times reports. âVincent being who he was would have wanted to help as many people as possible,â Allison Gorrell, a spokeswoman for the Jackson family, told The Times. âItâs something his family wanted to do to get answers to some of their questions.â Jackson was 38. profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/02/18/vincent-jackson-likely-died-days-before-he-was-discovered/

I have been a bit surprised to see how involved and giving VJ was in the community. I donât remember that side of him being reported on at all when he was in SD. It was more VJ the DUI and hold out. TB has a much better opinion. He got a 5 year $55m contract from TB and by all accounts lived up to it. Also credited for mentoring Mike Evans
