^^^I noticed you haven’t replied to my taking issue wit your “sugar daddy” statement I speak for a LOT of san diegans when I say that we will be just fine without the NFL, just like LA didn’t use tax payer money to subsidize billionaires private sport teams my city will continue to do likewise, thanks but we’re doing fine after 5 years, the beaches are still beatiful, my property values are still going up, everything is fine here in San Diego. Just like they did in LA, when the NFL gets their collective heads out of their rears, they are welcome to return to our beautiful city so long as they pay for their own stadiums and facilities. This city offerred the chargers very tons of options including cheap land that you or I couldn’t buy at those prices and they were going to LA no matter what. If the NFL decides it’s a bad idea not to have a team in the nations 6th largest city then they will figure out how to pay for it, just like they did in LA after 20 years. San Diego doesn’t need bezos or the NFL! I’m sorry, reading this on my phone and I missed that. My apologies, and I won’t use that term in the future. It’s coming from my dozen years as a moderator on the Chargers Message Board where I was pleading with San Diegans to get on their politicians butts to support the various stadium initiatives. Most responses were they don’t need public money and they have no options while I argued that eventually there will be an option. To date there have only been two truly privately built modern NFL stadiums: Levi Stadium in Silicon Valley and Stan’s Canyon in Inglewood. Trust me that when I say that when Kroenke built SoFi, he wasn’t looking to lose money on the deal. It took the marriage of two of the richest 15 individuals on the planet (Kroenke and his Walmart heiress wife) to front-end the money in Inglewood, but they will make money on the move in the end with the massive & diverse development that has a larger footprint than Disneyland. Bezos spending $4-5 billion to purchase the team, relocate it to San Diego & spend another $2+ billion to build a stadium without having the corporate backing of LA or the Bay Area in the 29th ranked media market / 17th ranked metropolitan population (behind the Inland Empire population) with no public financing contributions? I just don’t see it, but I could be wrong. mediatracks.com/resources/nielsen-dma-rankings-2020/www.statista.com/statistics/183600/population-of-metropolitan-areas-in-the-us/

Half my of my extended family lives in LA. I was born in sacramento but have lived in San Diego since the mid 1970s when I was a child. I consider myself a citizen of California republic so I root for ANY team located in the state. I’m happy that people in our state are not willing to give corporate welfare to billionares. While I might support and root for other teams in the state I have a special love for the dang lightning bolts, they just looks so god damn cool. The Chargers were born in LA so I’m okay with them staying there going forward.

This will never happen. $4-$5b? Good luck Dean!!! Even so, that amount of money is small change to Bezos. Other thing is the Chargers were profitable in San Diego all those years. It’s not a money losing operation. In fact, you have to be an idiot to lose money on an NFL team. All your expenses are basically covered by TV and media deals. That’s before you sell tickets or suites or whatever happy crap. Guys like Bezos know how to turn a buck.

The Clippers sold for $2 billion six years ago!! If Bezos or some other multi-billionaire doesn’t bite the bullet and pay a premium for an LA-based franchise, then the three Spanos siblings bite the bullet, borrow against the trust equity that will grow after the television & gambling deals, and stick to the plan of looking for buyers in 2024. And Bezos can make more money in LA on a $1 / year stadium lease at the premier stadium on the planet than he can by moving to a much smaller market and building his own stadium. If we know one thing about Bezos, it’s that he loves $$$.

I see this as a nothingburger . Actually close to the Washington Football team where minority stake owners were just bought out after raising issues on how Snyder was running the team/business. He just took out loans of $850 mil to buy them out and will then payoff those loans by reselling those shares in the team to other investors.
As much as we detest Dean and the other Spanos members this will never reach the level of the league forcing them to sell.
I also can't see the NFL owners accepting Bezos as an owner.

All their dirty laundry for the world to see. Either way, looks like The Chargers will be sold in 2024. I guess there’s a buzz about Bezos but he wouldn’t be my choice. There’s plenty of other billionaires.

The dirty laundry is going to be out there soon which is why I can see the NFL stepping in with the arbitration which will keep most of the laundry unseen. I have never defended Dean Spanos as being a savvy businessman, and it’s obvious he isn’t. And yes, it’s pretty clear that the remaining Spanos’ will sell the franchise by 2024. I view that as being a W for the Chargers fan base. 🍺

Hell, the chargers were the flagship franchise of the AFL, THE FLAGSHIP! That is part of there legacy and it’s high time some one got around to restoring that kind of prestige to the club. Hopefully it’ll be the next owner and getting rid of that raider lover dean as owner is something I’ve wished for for decades.

I have to imagine this was an issue for Dea since the move was first announced back in 2017 that has just now surfaced in public. Definitely been going on for a while. Look, she wants to cash out and the others can’t afford it. Tell her to call JG Wentworth if she needs cash now. I ain't paying her squat. She signed up for the ride. Even if it burns to the ground !!

Causes turmoil.

That article tells me that TT is severely underrated by me... He's done alot to keep this team competitive through all the Spanos ineptitude.
