Per Popper chargers have claimed DT Eric Banks & DB Trey Marshall no word on any cuts. Jacksonville claimed Tyron Johnson Whoa, we already have an extra DB stashed on IR and now they signed a safety, that means two outta the current ten guys that made the 53 are going to get chopped so much for making the 53 man roster and that DT, who is he going to replace? I thought they’d keep 6 to begin with but that’d involve cutting somewhere else on the roster, like maybe RB? IDK, carrying both anderson and nabers seems kinda redundant to me too

Is anyone familiar with Marshall? I don’t know anything about him but the broncos are so incredibly deep at DB that them cutting him doesn’t mean he sucks, he could be really good and he is familiar to our defensive coordinator and has 3 years of experience which the safety room definitely is short on experience.

BTW, I was surprised the rams cut Banks, he really stood out in the preseason, he’s a staley guy that was signed to rams as UDRFA in 2020 so Staley is very familiar with him. You guys are gonna love him, he’s stronger and way more explosive than Cortez once he beats his man he explodes to the QB, if it was cortez vs banks the chargers definitely upgraded there Absolutely reported for sick and depraved graphic material. (please post more)

Staley was on the Broncos staff in 2019 (outside linebackers coach) and defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill coached the Donkos defensive backs in 2019 and 2020, so they definitely have familiarity with him.

The Los Angeles Chargers today claimed defensive lineman Eric Banks and defensive back Trey Marshall off waivers. To make room on the 53-man active roster, the Bolts waived cornerback Brandon Facyson and defensive lineman Forrest Merrill. The Chargers also signed 12 players to the practice squad: Wide receiver Michael Bandy, running back Darius Bradwell, linebacker Cole Christiansen, defensive back Ben DeLuca, outside linebacker Emeke Egbule, defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko, defensive lineman Joe Gaziano, guard Nate Gilliam, guard Ryan Hunter, tight end Hunter Kampmoyer, wide receiver Jason Moore Jr., and wide receiver Joe Reed. Banks, a first-year player out of Texas-San Antonio, signed with the Rams in 2020 as an undrafted free agent, spending last season on the team's practice squad. He appeared in all 48 games for the Roadrunners over four seasons (2016-19), totaling 81 tackles (52 solo), 7.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss. The Memphis, Tenn., native was honorable mention All-Conference USA as a senior and led the league in seven statistical categories as a sophomore. Initially signing as an undrafted free agent out of Florida State with Denver, Marshall played in 30 games and made two starts for the Broncos over the last three seasons. In 2019, the Florida State product played in all 16 games and made a pair of starts, posting 19 tackles (13 solo), forced a fumble and had a pair of recoveries. In four seasons (2014-17) for the Seminoles, Marshall started 24 of his 38 games played, and registered 135 tackles (81 solo), a 12-yard sack and six passes defensed. He was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week after an 11-tackle performance against Wake Forest in 2015. www.chargers.com/news/practice-squad-2021

Look for both Facyson & Merrill to be re-signed to the practice squad after clearing waivers.

Staley talking to the media now. Starts out discussing the Banks & Marshall signings. With Banks, Staley notes that he was impressed with him in the Rams 2020 training camp / preseason, and that he was outstanding in the 2021 preseason. Staley also notes that he's the type of interior defensive lineman that "we want to grow with, there's a lot to work with". With Marshall (refers to him as Trey), Staley say that both he and Hill have familiarity with him, he's an outstanding special teams player, and he fits the culture of the DB room that they want to have where you have guys who can do a lot of things. Also notes that he's a safety, dime money, and a four-core special teamer. Continues that Ryan Smith and Kemon Hall offer more for special teams than Facyson does. It's becoming a common theme for skill position players who aren't starters or key rotation players as he states that he wants the back 4 or 5 of the 10 DB's be devoted to the kicking game. They are now getting a clear picture of who the core four special teamers will be and what roles the other two will have in a couple of the special team units.

Urban 1, Staley 0 I’m gonna give coach the benefit of the doubt here. If there was some looming off the field issue or something internal that we don’t know about yet we’re all gonna feel goofy later if we judge this cut too harshly now, let’s give it some time, I have a feeling something will come to light eventually. We still have tons of talent at WR so if any one unit on the team could afford to lose talent it was the WR room…

All it might have come down to is the ability or willingness to excel at special teams. Those kept have a role there.
