I'm struggling where we hired Staley, 89 days later we had the draft, but Staley was so greatly versed in college talent that he then overrode Tom Telesco and our Pro NFL Scouting Department. Not seeing it. Well, you do walk around with a bag over your head and then you cover your eyes with your hand on top of it, how in the hell do you expect to see anything!? 89 days is an eternity for a football nut like staley and he hired a bunch of college coaches that in some cases recruited or played against some of the guys we drafted. If you honestly don’t think this draft was more tidy, organized, and plan oriented then you are not paying attention. Look back on drafts from years past and you’ll see a lot more of BPA type stuff that ignores team needs. This year they where taking the best player available at said needs that fits the team but they were very specific in there targets, no project types, these guys all were able to contribute early at least on STs. EMP!!! It’s undeniable, this draft was very very different so take your head outta your bag and uncover your eyes. You draft your future QB, then you lock down your LT. That is tried and true unwritten rule in the NFL. Slater was automatic. You know better than whatever the hell you wrote up there. Round 2 ? CB was pretty damn obvious with Hayward leaving. Round 3 WR with Williams on an option year. You don't need Staley with a swami hat on to figure it out.

Staley filled his staff with college coaches......far too lazy/busy to look, but that statement doesn't feel accurate. As the talent on the roster has improved year to year, and it has, the draft focus has narrowed. That said, I think TT just had a really good draft.....it happens. I’m not sure how you missed the story but it was well documented by more than one person covering the team, people were surprised staley hired so many college guys without NFL coaching experience. Derrick ashley (secondary coach) tennesse our josh palmer connection chris beatty (wide receiver coach) came from pitt I think he was consulted on one of our lower picks (larry roundtree?) he’s also our connection to the kid we signed off the kansas city chiefs Ffrench the kick return specialist. Mayur chaudhari (special teams assistant) UC davis derrick foster (running backs coach) university of iowa our nick nieman connection isaac shewmaker (defensive assistant) tennesse chandler whitmer (offensive assistant) clemson these are six that I know of on a staff of 14-15 guys? I don’t know what the league average is but hiring 35% outta college must be high if people were surrpised by it. Hiring at a 30% rate, or even the 35% you come up with, doesn't tip the scales in my view. Yes, some might have personal knowledge of college prospects, and will mention those prospects in meetings. That said, it only gets the club to look at the dossier created for that prospect by the scouting staff, and certainly doesn't nullify their (scouts) work. The draft effort is a collective effort, and early on, everyone on staff has input. By draft day, only two or three people have influence on the decisions being made in that moment....GM, HC, and Owner. We will never know how much impact Staley had on this recent draft, but it seems fair to say some at the very least.

^^^gaziano got blown up, bosa overran the play, fehoko and merrill held the line allowing the linebackers and safeties to close in, but merrill didn’t need any help, he cleaned up on a really good back!
I’m having fantasies of merrill, fehoko, and joseph lining up against the brown offensive line with joey and nwosu lined up outside of them in a classic 3-4 look, with white and tranquill at ILB, that’s the front 7 look the bears used to give the browns fits earlier this year.

I thought Christian Covington had a nice game, too. Early on, Linval Joseph set the tone. He became less effective as the game wore on. Rotate and keep the big guys fresh against the Browns.

It might be prudent to activate fehoko again too. The browns are not going to stop running, even if we go up by a couple scores they will not abandon the run game.

If the Browns get down by 2 scores, I'd expect to see more Hunt. The LB's will have their work cut out for them this weekend. Kyzir is quitely having a good year. Tranquil is/was playing better than K9. The DL must keep OL occupied and off of our LB's on Sunday. Browns picking up Jack Conklin and drafting Jedrick Wills was shrewd.

They get down 14 or more points to our offense and Mayfield will throw his arm off back there. Believe me.

Wills is banged up, there’s a chance he might not even suit up, conklin is having an off year compared to last year, maybe he’s dealing with something too. I like how we match up on the outside for this game because of those injuries. My concern is what happens inside? How will covington, tillery, gaziano, joseph, and merrill do against those guys? The browns do a lot of different things with there line, sweeps, traps, inside screens, etc. the chargers will get a ton of looks, but how will mayfield play? If mayfield plays like last couple weeks, we should win this game.

Baker playing with a partially torn labrum. Gear up to stop the run this week.

Nice read and react, and the react was pretty damn fast too. Merrill brushed off the C, threw RG 72 ( I think 6-7 345 Jones-Smith) to the ground and was behind the surviving Duhs OL when he dove on the RB. Tranquill & White got there, might have made the play but Merrill didn't need any help.
Merrill may be for real.
