Sort of surprised no one mentioned the passing of Henry Aaron. 86 I remember watching Atlanta play everyday on TV for a week, with everyone expecting him to met and then pass Babe Ruth. I remember that event when he hit 715. What is amazing was the announcer, i think Vin Scully, saying the event was special having a black man getting a standing ovation. Remember the "oh henry" candy bars I was living in a suburban area of DC (Annandale, Virginia) and can still remember watching that historic HR live in my bedroom on an old B&W television that regularly had vertical control issues on it. A great moment in history, not just baseball history. Rest well, Hammerin’ Hank. You lived an exemplary life! 🍺

I haven’t followed the NFL in so long, that I’ve missed all of Jared Goff’s NFL career (he was one of the guys coming out in the draft when I called it quits). So I had to look up to see how he’s done, and to me (an NFL Outsider), it seems like he’s had a pretty respectable career thus far. Maybe a slight regression this past year ? But for some reason, he’s not even good enough for the Lions to hold on to, and a guy on the wrong side of 30 who has never won a playoff game is a major upgrade to the Rams

Goff might be worth $20 million / season as a starter, but his contract pays a cap-breaking $35 million / season. The Lions will be drafting a QB in the top 7 this May, and Goff won’t be a $35 million backup in 2022. Goff will be cut loose unless the drafted QB is an immediate bust AND he’s willing to voluntarily take a buzz cut to his contract.

I think his early play was more a benefit of having a dominant Todd Gurley, who was MVP worthy in the early Goff years. The Rams thought so highly of him that they extended him at least a year before they needed to. That was a huge misjudgment.

Gotta love LoLo altering his run line to ensure that maximum contact was achieved! 🍺

The play was legendary in the Chargers locker room for years. _______ Neal, now with the Oakland Raiders, is still a frequent topic of conversation among players at Chargers Park. Hester hears about the legend from teammates and just recently saw video of the play in Baltimore in 2006 where Neal, carrying the ball, actually ran back at the end of a play to hit Ravens' 345-pound defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. "That was amazing," Hester said. www.chicagotribune.com/sdut-growing-his-role-2009aug12-story.html

So much for legacy’s being made in the playoff’s !
Megatron plays in 2 playoff games in his career (both losses), abruptly retires at age 30 after only 9 seasons, but joins Jerry Rice as one of the very few WR’s to be a 1st Ballot HOF Wide Receiver.
It’s not like his regular season numbers were unprecedented either, they are 4th best amongst a players first 9 seasons, with Torry Holt being one of those ahead of him. Holt retired in 2009, played in as many Super Bowls as Megatron did Playoff Games, had more receptions & yards in his first 9 seasons, and in 6 years of eligibility has never been more than a semi-finalist. How ever long Holt ends up having to wait, should give you an idea of at least how long Megatron should have had to.
Nearly a decade of eligibility for Art Monk to wait for his election, but I guess he was no Megatron...
