UCLA and USC both advance to the elite 8 in the NCAA tourney. Big surprise that both are here, especially UCLA which had to win a play in game to make the 64. Both face #1 seeds now with UCLA against Michigan and USC against undefeated Gonzaga.

Pretty much my first time out of the house to see friends in over a year to watch these two games after not watching college basketball all year. UCLA has found their head coach for the future, and they play disciplined basketball. They have a very tough foe in Michigan, but have already exceeded expectations. USC has more talent than UCLA, but they took their foot off the gas that almost allowed Oregon to get back into the game. They need to be more disciplined against Gonzaga and keep the pedal to the metal for 40 minutes if they hope to make it to the Final 4.

For those that don’t think coaching matters, Mick Cronin has made quite a difference. They are undermanned but play so hard. If UCLA becomes a top destination for recruits like it once was they will be formidable. SC is very talented but sometimes tends to be out of sync or sloppy. In typical SC fashion they hired the Mobley’s father as a coach in order to get the kids. |

They’re overmatched against Gonzaga but that doesn’t seem to bother them. Huge run for UCLA. Hopefully it helps keep the west coast kids at home in the future so UCLA can return to glory |

Meanwhile, the lesson from Westwood and UCLA is that toughness, grit and eliminating unforced errors can win out over talent. I’d love to see the Chargers play with the same never give in mentality |

I don’t think Gonzaga is thinking they are “cute”. It took a miracle to knock the Bruins out. As Jay Bilas said, they played a championship caliber game. Gave it their all, never stumbled. I’m super proud of UCLA. All heart. I’ll take that every time |

I’ll take that every time Best basketball game that I’ve seen in a couple of decades.
