Snippet from Daniel Popper’s notes from Day 1 COSTA MESA, Calif. — The Chargers opened training camp Wednesday at Jack R. Hammett Sports Complex. Here are my observations, notes and takeaways: … Highlights from team drills … On the second play of 11-on-11, Austin Ekeler took a handoff. Mack blew up the play with quick penetration off the defensive right edge for what would have been a tackle for loss if the two sides were tackling. That was one of two tackles for loss Mack had against the run Wednesday. As I wrote in the offseason, Mack’s impact on the run defense should not be understated. “That player that was out there today is the player that I’m used to seeing,” Staley said of Mack. theathletic.com/3455403/2022/07/27/chargers-derwin-james-training-camp/?source=user_shared_article

You know how we admire Bosa. He's our draftee. When he has a good game you get 1.5 to 2 sacks, pressures, and he tackles ball carriers. We go boy did Bosa have a good game. Mack, a former defensive player of the year, is a FREAK when unleashed. I have seen him completely take over games on defense. He was JAMMING last year when he hurt his foot. People are doubting him and he is using it as fuel. You do NOT want this guy pissed off, and he already is. If you watch the hints, he wants a little raider action week 1. They traded him and he hasn't forgotten. Bosa already does not like Carr, and Mack is coming from the other side-----Yikes !

One large grain of salt please....... I'll put a small grain of salt on it for the reason that you point out. Mack reportedly played great in 2021 before/after the foot injury, and he is motivated. I likey and expect the same to happen when full pads are on!

4-2-5 today (if James were out there) looked like: Bosa-SJD-Johnson-Mack KVN-Tranquill Jackson-Callahan-ASJ James-Adderley Fire !!!! If. I hear you. I am not happy about this contract delay either. We want OUR drafted safety signed to an extension !!! But let me say this about that.........and Moe and Joe McRugby will have to help me. I don't think I have ever seen this. Contract negotiations are usually ugly at this time. Hell, the front office and James met and agreed to camp conditions, and I think it was the team's idea !!!! Come to camp, you don't have to wear equipment, and you don't have to work out ?!?!?!?!?! And the player told them he would love to ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? He's cheerleading the defense, helping to coach, and giving direction out there !!!!!!! Contract hold outs I know all about, but hold IN'S ?? Its incredible, and speaks to the bond that the front office has with James !

His strength is out of proportion to his size. So is his suddenness. That one-armed suplex of OT Wirfs is something he's done for years. It isn't over.
