Hindsight here; Why didn't they sign him last year to a reasonable contract, when nobody wanted him on 2nd round tender. Perhaps 'they' were part of the 'nobody' contingent..... Double AB, making TW the primary target should make for a few TO's for the D.... TW did not get #1 WR money going to the Raturds, makes me think that offer from TT was really low. His contract is almost a mirror image of Keenan Allen's contract.........................................

I would have as well, and I’m sure that TT felt the same. However, Benjamin was already signed to a short term deal and they would have taken a six-figure cap hit in 2018 had they released him from his deal. The second contract is an NFL player’s big payday (it was Benjamin’s second contract), and TWill’s agent was looking for a big payday that he ended up getting in 2019 from the Raiders. Nobody was willing to give up a 2nd round pick AND a big contract for TWill in 2018. That changed when the draft pick compensation was removed in 2019. The Chargers had the opportunity to sign TW without the additional 2nd rd pick cost, and didn't...... My guess is they (club) looked at what TW wants (money/terms) and what TW brings (production) and decided no. That pretty much put TW out of their plans, and on a path to FA long ago. Agree. With Keenan Allen, MW and Hunter Henry being the future and PR proven to be able to thrive no matter who it seems is lined up at WR, I am willing to bet that the Chargers weren’t willing to pay anywhere near what TWill’s agent was looking for. I am happy for Tyrell that he got his payday: he has worked hard, been a good teammate and improved each season, but with PR at QB it makes no sense to pay your #4 option anywhere near what he signed for yesterday.

I agree with you, but I wonder about another factor------Telesco just will not do that contract, no matter how loaded or unloaded we are at receiving ?

I chose to not address the question of TW being overpaid intentionally, as there is no true answer at this point. Your response has forced me to go there though.....yes, the Raiders overpaid for what will end up being mediocre production. Time will tell if my beliefs are accurate. Having the cap space/money, and s[pending wisely, are two very different things with this, in my view.
