Willing to bet that’s all the agent was willing to sign for after not getting a long-term offer from anybody to his and AP’s liking. Has another big year, he hits the free agent market again at age 28 instead of 29. Start edgin to 29-30, a larger long-term offer won’t be forthcoming. You know this stuff as well as anybody. Is it correct to say that the Perryman and Davis deals could be 1 year as well because the cap hit if they release them next year is so small? You can believe Thomas is a 1 year rental. Notice is served on Perryman: Stay healthy next year......................

Happy he is back. He and Derwin were prob the most consistent and impactful players on defence last year especially when Bosa was out.

So looks like Phillips one year deal was for $2 million. If he hits all incentives and the pro bowl it maxes out at $2.5 million.
So those wondering why it wasn’t longer? Looks like the market for him was a lot lower than most expected. Probably why TT let him test it. I guess Phillips is betting on himself to turn in another All-Pro year and turn that into a payday.

Phillips and his agent were/are looking for a much bigger long-term deal than $2 million / year. If he proves it again in 2019, he hits the open market as a 29-year-old UFA. Signs a multi-year deal for slightly more than $2 million / year, he next hits the UFA market as a 30 year old, and that's the law of diminishing returns age in the NFL.
