Herbert and other starters still in with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd. Smh I think the players wanted to play. I think Staley was letting them decide That is incorrect. Multiple players after said it was Staleys decision. So did our new coach that is going to revolutionize the NFL by himself.

Now we have a short week and long travel.

Are u telling me that Spiller can’t beat Rountree out? Has anyone seen anything from Roundtree to want to keep him playing RB (or even Special Teams)? This is an easily upgradeable roster spot. And if he's playing over Spiller.... ? ? ? ?

We will Al forget about this if we win next week. Here’s to a short memory Indeed. Let’s hope for the win next week. Yes to what Amped and LightsOut said- if we lose next week everyone will point back to THIS game and say playing our starters caused them to be tired or hurt and thus the playoff loss on the road on a short week. If we win next week at Jax, no one will care or remember this folly. Correction- ... when we win... ! ! ! BOLT UP!

This mopey fanbase is only truly happy when they are miserable. If Bosa or Williams sustained serious injury than I would agree with going after Staley with pitchforks. If this team cannot beat the Jags on a 6 day work week, then they would have no chance against the Chiefs in round two. Playing or sitting starters was truly a catch-22.
A different perspective would be that I would rather shake a feeling of over confidence in week 18 rather than the first half of the wild card game. I would also rather play the Jags on a short week with an extra day coming in round two or round three. I would get the bitching about the Monday night slot. I guarantee you that no one in the Charger locker room is sharing the concerns of this fanbase at this point. You play to win, not avoid losing.
The Broncos were ready to quit and mail it in. The bullshit roughing the passer and subsequent PI call gave them wind for their sails. Eckler's fumble then eliminated another knock out punch opportunity. We were dominating the throughout the first half. Then we went vanilla. They are a group of professionals with a lot of pride. This was there chance to go out of a miserable season on a high note. Winning would have felt nice but would not change what needs to happen next Saturday. By all accounts we are healthy.
It's amazing that the final score in a meaningless game resonates so loudly with so many people fans. The Freak can continue to give himself a week long hand-job for his Nostradamus like ability to predict trivial things.

… It's amazing that the final score in a meaningless game resonates so loudly with so many people fans. Does it, though? That’s not the message I’m hearing at all. Not from the fanbase, and not from the analysts.

It looks like we escaped when it comes to big injuries (see the Jeff Miller article in the Playoffs thread).
Playing / not playing people was truly a Catch 22 situation: sit or pull a lot of guys early, we would have depended on a four game stretch that all is well and we just need to keep on doing what we have been doing. Following yesterday’s performance, there are quite a few areas where coaches and players can hone in on as they enter the playoffs:
- We can’t turn the ball over - gotta clean that up.
- The defense can’t lose focus on where their improvements had occurred over the past six weeks. Defensive front needs to work as a cohesive unit in order to produce against the run and the secondary can’t have the breakdowns that led to the three 50+ yard plays against the Donkos.
Bring on the Jags!!

Denver is in the dust. I don't care anymore. Time to move on. Jags are next.

A short week this week means a longer week next round- that's Genius! After we beat the Jags we'll get an extra day of rest compared to our second round opponent. We've also played the Jags before and have some familiarity with them, while our next opponent will likely be new this year. This is a good example of the glass half empty or full viewpoints, thank you SDC for making a good case for the latter!

We're not beating anybody unless Lombardi and our offense can pull their heads from their asses... I swear to god if they don't stop making Carter a WR1 I'm going to punch a kitten... The dude can't run routes, can't catch, and fumbles the ball.
Time to open the playbook and lean on Allen and a banged up Williams...
As far as resting the starters goes... Every other coach in the NFL would have sat players, Staley is a slow learner.

We weren’t beating anybody coasting into the playoffs with only one complete offensive performance over the past month & a half (against a banged up & fangless Rams defense). Turnovers killed the offense against a very good Donkos defense. Clean those up and we should be in business Saturday night with a novacaine-injected MDub. BTFU!!!
