Good info from Popper, stuff I've been curious about... Particularly Spiller and JT Woods info, it will be a shame of Woods is a bust as a 3rd rounder. Also curious about K9 but he wasn't mentioned. Tackling issues for a guy as physically talented as Woods is a mental thing: you’ve got to read the play and want to attack & hit the ball carrier. Hopefully it’s a matter of the game slowing down for him in year 2; if it’s hesitancy to hit, then there’s a good chance at bust city for Woods. My problem with JT Woods is that his college rep was that he was a poor tackler. If you’re a poor tackler in college it’s easy to imagine that you won’t improve in that department in the NFL. This was a Craig Mager level reach and tho I hope he miraculously turns into a solid player I’m not holding my breath

The players will never agree on any provision that suppresses earning potential. I could see a position group soft cap but hard to imagine a player-level hard cap. That would be harder to do than just put a max cap on a player salary.

If we have a repeat of missing the playoffs or getting embarrassed in the first round again, you can bet your house Staley is gone... Its either sheer delusion or complete homerism to think otherwise. TT on the other hand I doubt (agree with Joe), he's either getting better or getting lucky with his drafts and team building.

Maybe, but I don’t see either as especially likely. Perhaps a fund to compensate for “over-performing” players relative to contract could be workable. But it all seems pretty unlikely this early in the CBA.

While that list seems to include the "big name" running backs, I wonder how all the other RBs in the league feel about not getting invited? Is the "cause" better money for all RBs, or just those of us that are deemed worthy?
Seems like no matter someone's good intentions, there are always lines that have to be drawn and people excluded which perpetuates unfairness and division.
And ultimately is this really altruistic, or just a façade for "me. me, me" ? Just a great great take !! I'm nominating it for POTD. Well thought out.

Nothing will happen with running backs in 2023. It’s too late for anything to be done. I think that they’re setting the stage for placing the issue on the front burner in the NFL offseason meetings in 2024. By the way, Ekeler is a Vice President of the NFLPA Executive Committee. Austin Ekeler | Vice President The Los Angeles Chargers running back, who was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017, has been involved in the NFLPA since 2018. After serving as a first alternate, he was elected as the Chargers player rep in 2021 before being voted onto the Executive Committee in March 2022. Off the field, Ekeler launched his own charity, the Austin Ekeler Foundation, which helps create opportunities for people to fulfill their passion and guide them through life. His organization has helped renovate a high school gym into a state-of-the-art fitness center, give back to the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center and provide five schools in Los Angeles with washers, dryers and detergent so that students can have clean clothes. nflpa.com/about/nflpa-officersYou can list his charities until the cows come home. He's going to be listed as a malcontent.

Meeting over.

Ekeler is an NFLPA Vice President on the NFLPA Executive Committee. Tell me how productive of a discussion an initial meeting with 200 participants would have been? And if you can’t have a meeting with 200+ RB’s who all get a chance to offer their thoughts / input on an initial push, how long would the meeting take? 4 hours? 8 hours? A couple of days? All on the eve of training camps opening. You can bet there will be ensuing meetings where all RB’s will be invited and allowed input, but in my opinion Ekeler receiving this initial input to take back to the Executive Committee was important.

The next CBA will be a contentious interaction. NFLPA will, or already has started, have their issues and solutions discussed and prioritized long before meetings with NFL. Any possible solutions must also be judged against the NFL perspective. The business is flourishing, financial growth annually, big changes to the format are extremely unlikely.

Chargers make the PO's, go into the first PO game as favorites, the morning of the game Staley has a heart attack, Chargers get beat badly. Are you firing Staley? My point is the circumstances will influence any decisions. Nobody knows the circumstances until season end.
