I know some of you prob like those 4th down calls at the end zone, but had we gone for points you all know the outcome could have been different with the game going into OT. We needed those 3 points… If we had kicked two field goals instead of going for it twice, we'd have lost 20-16. You don't just get to count the one we got stopped and ignore the one that turned 3 into 7. WAY too much math. Bleh

A couple of my takeaways, which mean they are now your law:
We did not open up holes blocking for Ekeler.
We dearly miss Mike Willams/Guyton. You HAVE to have a deep threat. I don't care if the guy drops half the passes. You have to let the defense know we will throw deep. Otherwise you shrink the field.

My excitement regards the Moore acquisition was way over the top wrong. He may have some good ideas, who knows? The Chargers offense is riddled with mistakes. Clean team execution is a pipe dream.
How about the "correction" to Herbert's delivery? Too many tipped balls so they worked to raise his release point. Did that affect his accuracy?

Any coach can go for it and hope to get lucky like we did in our other 2 wins. Staley’s luck ran out so don’t take the easy points, the door to unemployment just opens wider.

There was no FG to be had in those. I think you just don't ever like going for fourth down. Ever. And that's OK. It's just not how Staley rolls and we should all be used to that by now. His employment is not directly related to that -- him going for it on fourth ain't gunna get him fired. An unsatisfactory season result will. You might contend those are directly related, but I wouldn't agree. Staley's 4th down decisions did not lose this game, and most certainly did not lose the last two games that we won. Even if you're of the never-go-on-4th ilk, Staley's 4th down decisions don't even crack the top ten of what's wrong with this team. |

I don’t think our 4th down aggressiveness is a problem. I’d argue it’s been one of the few bright spots, and maybe not aggressive enough.

The blocking in general was a disaster. Part of that is the Cowboys DL... they are very good. I'm super disappointed that we didn't get Gerald Everett more involved. I thought they would attack the LB's over the middle. I know I'm beating a dead horse... but Moore needs to get Darius Davis in the lineup. He's the guy that can stretch a defense.
