I'm off the Harbaugh train. I don't recall a game with worse HC decisions. Stupid challenges, going for it when you shouldn't, punting when you shouldn't, wasted timeouts.
He can maybe win me back, but until then this is the same ol chargers.

This game is probably the most infuriating in memory. A game we probably shouldn't win. A game that was imminently winnable. And squandered away. Offensive line is not good enough... We all knew this missing 2 key piece bookends.
This loss was entirely predictable based on the status of this team right now.
What makes it infuriating is we win with healthy players and Keenan Allen...
Our offense is seriously missing Allen and a legit TE threat. I knew Hurst was not going to make an impact...

He can maybe win me back, but until then this is the same ol chargers. bad play call? maybe. but he could have gone 3 so he took points off the board. The challenge was strange. I didn't think it was worth it at that point. I thought he did it to give his D a rest. I wish we would pound it like they expect. Our FB is a big dude, Not even a lead block to get 1 yard?

To be fair, with all the injuries and Herbert not 100%, I actually didn't expect it to be as close.

We need more weapons on offense period end of story. This season goes nowhere with the youth and bargain bin FA's we have now.
We have no true WR1 and we have no consistent option at TE... Who is Herbert's security blanket? He has none, we let him walk.
We needed Keenan Allen on this team more than we needed Joey Bosa's injuries.

McClonky catch though was a gem. Our best hope is McConkey and Herbert keep developing a rapport and QJ can keep catching the ball. Palmer is a waste of a roster spot at this point...

Way back when it was believed that Horitz and Harbaugh were in possession of the Holy Grail....we now see they are not.
To be fair....
Horitz had a club in serious cap distress, and had decisions to make. Looking at KA, MW, Bosa and Mack.... MW coming off injury, KA with zero willingness to restructure, Mack and Bosa both willing to restructure. Tough decisions were made....bye to MW and KA. Not too sure I would have gone that way, my lack of faith in Bosa well established, but Horitz chose his path to cap compliance. With little money, Horitz signed what he could afford....and with each player there was a reason Horitz could afford them.
The draft was exactly what a Harbaugh draft would look like, or so I believed. Alt was a great pick, very talented OT, and should be for a long time. Injuries happen, bad timing for Alt to be injured, but c'est la vie.... Slater being injured is same thing, bad timing. I loved the McConkey pick, seemed sneaky sly at the time, and still does. He is a rookie, it takes time.... The rest of the draft addressed depth in the Harbaugh vision, and a shrug of the shoulders on it.
Harbaugh hiring Roman is not my favorite move, but Roman is what Harbaugh wants the Charger offence to be, so I get it. Draft Alt, Slater on the other side, figure out the OG's from what you got, sign a FA centre...the best they could do. Depth was always going to an issue.....and that issue showed up yesterday. Harbaugh has made serious strides in changing the culture, expectations, but he still needs talent to win. This year is a transition season, next year is the year for expectations. Horitz will have a ton of money, and Harbaugh will have a grasp on what players he needs to move on from.

To be fair, with all the injuries and Herbert not 100%, I actually didn't expect it to be as close. I believe in our defense and thought they could hold KC down with Pacheco out and even more when Rashee Rice went out. Kareem Hunt looked like he hadn't missed a beat. Kelce came alive. Still a great effort by the D wasted. Mack, Tuli and Dupree all played very well. Past seasons it's been the defense unable to hold teams down. Now completely flipped as our offense is inept. Can't we ever get things right? |

McClonky catch though was a gem. Yeah I think dobbins was surprised when the ball hit him in the hands on that wheel route. He was not open.
Herbert was good enough to win yesterday but the receivers let him down. the defense was good enough. Running game was bad some coaching decisions let us down but the game was still winnable with a very banged up team.
Keenan is banged up too. 3 rec for 19 yards. QJ was to be our answer. Ladd is a way better pick than QJ. I think we can still do some damage this year, just needs to get healthy.

Offensive penalties are a game killer. Coach says that's on him. OK Harbaugh, fix it. Your offense can't get out of their own way.
PS: Where are the 3rd quarter, 2nd half adjustments? It's getting old having no 3rd quarter offense for the last 3+ years.
