The Russell Wilson contract is a stunner. Rivers has a year left on his deal. How does the RW deal impact an extension for Rivers? How should it? With Tyrod getting $5.5m/year how much of the cap will the Chargers spend on the QB position?
Chop it up kids./

It will be interesting to see where the talks go as far as salaries are concerned.

With Phil's potential new contract, he can afford to have a few more kids.
Then at the end of his contract, we can sign Gunner Rivers to be the new Chargers QB.

I suppose ideally we get a 2 year extension to help spread out the cap hit. Worst comes to worst we have the franchise tag to buy more time.

Wilson averages $35m/yr Rodgers averages $33.5m/yr. Rivers? It seems to me that the market will force a team to pay a true franchise QB big big dollars, and carry many more guys at vet min or ELC.......is that going to be viewed as good or bad by the NFLPA ?

Michael Silver says the Chargers are still in the Josh Rosen talks.
Tyrod signed, Rivers absent going into his last year, Chargers in the Rosen conversation. Hmmmm.....

Don't see it anymore than the "PR is going to Tennessee to be closer to Alabama" that was being pushed by media-types a few years back right before Rivers signed a long-term extension.
We shall see: it is liar's month.

We shall see: it is liar's month. The end of the Rivers era will come relatively soon. Only question is how soon. They may want the Rosen stuff out there as a negotiating ploy. Signing Tyrod a bit more than that.
I don't think Rivers has ever missed time but he's out now on a family vacation. Everybody's ok with it. Like you say, liar's month.

If Phil thinks the team is close to a championship I think he'd sign a team friendly extension. I doubt he's the kind of guy to worry over having 60 mil in the bank as opposed to 65.

Rivers won’t command money like Wilson. I think he knows his worth and also how much he has left to play. Considering his own loyalty to his family being in San Diego amongst other factors, there shouldn’t be any issues with a contract not being drawn out and signed.
