There may not be a more undervalued prospect in this draft than Notre Dame interior defender Jerry Tillery. As PFF’s second-ranked interior defender and seventh-overall prospect, Tillery is a pass-rush machine who consistently beats the man in front of him. Tillery was one of the FBS’ best pass rushers last season, tying Quinnen Williams with the highest pass-rush grade for an interior defender. His quick hands and advanced pass-rush moves gave him the highest pass-rush win rate in the class. Furthermore, Tillery excelled when a defensive stunt was called, as he had by far the highest pass-rushing grade as well as the best win rate in the class on those plays. Pre-draft, it was hard to predict which players would be available at 28. I did see Tillery mocked to the Chargers a few times and I read a little on him that mentioned pros and cons. The pros are quoted above and I just LOVE those accolades about our newest Charger! Some of the cons I recall were: - unsure about his passion for football/commitment to the game because of varied off-field interests. {Say whaaaat???- who comes up with this and how to they diagnosis this from a young man's mind?}
- inconsistent play= sometimes gives his all and DOMINATES, other times gets lazy and phones it in {this is a real concern to me, something that can be seen on tape and verified}
- Foot stomp(s?) to a fallen opponent is hard to justify. {I won't defend anyone for this flagrant foul.}
Because of those negatives, I didn't exactly see Tillery fitting the TT mold of a player driven by football with high character. So I was surprised he was the pick last night.
For clarification, I am very happy he was taken- he has unreal talent that can be tapped and fits the top PON. I do not think he is a "bad character" off the field, and perhaps just the opposite. I love how smart he is, and how for an interior lineman he can rush the passer AND stop the run.
Jerry Tillery absolutely has the potential to be a STEAL at 28, and I predict he does just that THIS year!

The Bolts put their pick in early. No hesitation. That told me they wanted him and he was on their big board. the torn labrum is minor IMO. Didn't he actually play with it? Lol, that’s what everybody said about Jason Verrett Jason Verret is a shut down Corner when he plays. We'll see if Tillery is as injury prone.

How long ago did he tear his ACL? Tillery has a labrum issue I believe. I knew that, but the post referred to meniscus and ACL. Tillery played in 42 games for Notre Dame, so I am wondering when that injury occurred. High school? Or was the pst meant to be rhetorical where injuries are disregarded at this time of the year?

Listen, pussy footing around is OVER. Need to rip some Buffalo helmets off and go helmet to head on em. Know what I mean.
Play time has left the building.

At least that is how I took his post.
