From memory, DJ Fluker might have been our best first rounder at this point of their careers other than James.  Truly prophetic.  

So basically you're saying he was as effective as guys who didn't actually play... I'd probably agree with that assessment.

The timeline for Jerry Tillery

Through his first three career NFL games, rookie defensive lineman Jerry Tillery has not made a very sizable impact. He has two combined tackles, none for loss, and does not yet have a quarterback hit or sack.

Still, Bradley says he's seen "flashes" out of Tillery in the running game that has left him excited about the first-round pick's development.

"It's the part where you see him and you go, 'Holy cow, there's Jerry Tillery,'" Bradley said.

Added Bradley: "I thought for him, from the first game to the second game, he played double teams better, he played reach blocks better, he came off the slip blocks better. So it was more of a combination of just his fundamental techniques. Now you're saying, 'Well I know, but what about the rush?' And that's what we're all looking for. So I think that's more of a process sometimes than the run game, and I think that comfort level of getting enough rushes so that you can start perfecting your technique." Bradley said "there's still some blemishes that we've got to get corrected" with Tillery. He noted that last year's first-round pick struggled similarly in the early stages of his rookie season last year."We know what he's capable of and what he's done in practice, and that's why we're getting him in the rotation," Bradley said of Tillery. "We know there's going to be mistakes. Last year, we had Derwin James in there, and in the beginning of the year he made some mistakes and we kind of scratched our head and said, 'We got to fight through these learning curves because we know what he's going to bring.'

"And I think that's the same thing with a Tillery or a Nas or Teamer. We're going to have to go through some growing pains, but we know what we've got and we're excited about that. We just hope those growing pains are limited and not in critical times."

Did I just read Gus implying Tillery was just like James? I suspect Tillery on his best day doesn't bring half of what James brings on his worst day. Not a slam on Tillery, just more a recognition of how special James actually is.

DJ is special but he probably made more mistakes than we as fans know and got away with it because of his talent. It probably helped that he didn't miss any time during camp. Luckily the book hasn't been written on Tillery yet.
