I hear you. I am not happy about this contract delay either. We want OUR drafted safety signed to an extension !!! But let me say this about that.........and Moe and Joe McRugby will have to help me. I don't think I have ever seen this. Contract negotiations are usually ugly at this time. Hell, the front office and James met and agreed to camp conditions, and I think it was the team's idea !!!! Come to camp, you don't have to wear equipment, and you don't have to work out ?!?!?!?!?! And the player told them he would love to ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? He's cheerleading the defense, helping to coach, and giving direction out there !!!!!!! Contract hold outs I know all about, but hold IN'S ?? Its incredible, and speaks to the bond that the front office has with James ! Staley loves him. “It’s a different movie without Derwin”. He’s given him a ton of leverage. Hold up is probably 2 things: first, he’s not just looking to top Minkah but obliterate him. He plays all over the field. Not just a safety. Second, the guaranteed dollars which is what really matters in the nfl. Derwin has missed significant time and is coming off shoulder surgery. Those are the levers to be pulled.

It's too bad we have no info on this. McRugby riding Daniel Pooper's lap has completely failed us in this. Is the guaranteed money the hang up ?

www.si.com/nfl/2022/07/27/chargers-safety-derwin-james-training-camp-holdoutESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Friday that James has his mind set on being the NFL’s highest-paid safety. In June, Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick set the bar high with a four-year extension worth more than $73.6 million, making him the highest-paid safety in NFL history. The delay in negotiations was probably Telesco going to the hospital after he got James offer.........

Ed McGwire is the dude in control of the contract $$$, and I'm confident he'll get it done in short order. Popper expects it next week, but that won't satisfy the Emperor's lusty demand that he be informed of the contract status now. The Chargers aren't the only ones in this boat: there are two other stars around the league who have reported but aren't practicing at the present time. DJ is always in top shape and will be ready to play. I'll post the LA Times Jeff Miller's final story on the three Florida natives who are expected to be major impact players for the 2022 Chargers (Jackson, Mack - already posted his in the Offseason Thread, and James). Two of the three major NFL injuries that DJ has suffered have been in training camp. Just get him to the regular season healthy!

I want the dead scoop on WHY OUR guy is not signed. They can keep him out of drills all camp long. That's not a problem. He'll come to play in September. You know. When it matters.

Word from the field is Guyton did not have a good day, which allows MY Palmer to jump into WR3 ---where he belongs.
Also, rookie safety JT Woods can flat out fly !

Our guy is working out more than reported. It's like trying to cage a squirrel. You won't stop him from getting into the mix. The guy is just a talented football player at heart. His yearn for the game is remarkable.

He's in a video clip with Staley greeting him by name.

They were in shorts.........the two sides were not tackling, nor were they blocking. One large grain of salt please....... I'll put a small grain of salt on it for the reason that you point out. Mack reportedly played great in 2021 before/after the foot injury, and he is motivated. I likey and expect the same to happen when full pads are on! I hear you, and want Mack to be better than he has ever been! That said, the puff snippet about Mack is disingenuous, as it fails to acknowledge the pretty good LOT that really wasn't trying too hard. This kind of 'hype it up' garbage writing goes on every year......so take it for what it is....free marketing.

Impressive speed from our Baylor Safety.

Guyton is praying his speed gets him on the field......Palmer already is the #3 in my book. Guyton's strength is more of a stretch the field while Palmer is running routes. I see them as #3a & #3b. Who gets the call is more game play specific. I do think Palmer has more talent and will be a charger for a long time.
