That's a valid point, Freak. I do believe that WHEN we draft Rivers' replacement it should be on a first-round worthy talent, not a sixth-round or FA low probability guy. I'm just making the point that IMO this shouldn't be the year we take a first round QB because PR can still get us another year or two and our O-line needs outweigh everything. (ohiobolt is a very smart Charger fan. Follow along the trail I take him down.)
Ok. Let's continue your thought. You see Rivers in a bounce back year. Great !!! Now we are picking 25-30th in the draft. You pick leftovers there at QB, or mortgage about 4 years worth of top draft to move up.
OR, they could go ahead and release Rivers and pick one of those QB's. Hand him the keys to the franchise, thus ensuring the number one pick for next season .... and we get Lawrence! Then they trade the kid they pick at 6 this year for a fifth round pick and a banana - like the Josh Rosen deal. That would also get us a new GM and coaching staff, much to the delight of the "Fire Rivers" crowd.

Let's continue my thought... next year we pick 32nd!!! And of course our pick won't be one of the top five college players, but it will be so worth it!

TT is coming to bat with the bases loaded. FA's - ours & thiers Lots of quality draft talent at QB, OL, WR, DB Most cap $$ of his tenure Playing 2020 home games on the NFL's newst, bestest stadium.

The Rivers are dry and the Gates are off the hinges. Time for some new blood.

I actually like that mock... TT is terrible at drafting LB'ers. Maybe drafting one in the top 10 would help him out a little bit.

#6 puts us in the OT /QB zone. Until IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII say otherwise. That is all.

We need some impact players, improved depth, period. I'm not a strong proponent of "must take" a given position at #6 or whenever. We absolutely need improved OL play, a QB of the future, #3 WR, a RB who can compete for #1 who doesn't cost top RB money & so on. How we get there remains to be seen. Contracts - cuts, re-ups of current Chargers will play an early role. Added FA signings will be important.
Both impact our draft board. This is a good draft for OL and it's a lock that we'll take one or more. What IS imperative is that we don't overreach for PON at the cost of passing on a noticeably greater talent at an other position.

Jadeveon Clowney was supposed to be the next LT... We truly never know who that will be, but I agree with you. I personally would not take a LB at #6 but I think that draft overall would not be the end of the world. Its just not very sexy...
