Either he is a mediocre GM doing mediocre work or he is willing to be the mediocre face for the mediocre GM, which is exactly what mediocre people would do. I suppose its me that has to introduce some reality here. You guys are mad, and have absolutely every single right to be. I am too. But TT needs to be fired ?? It was JUST 2018 that you guys were crazy loving everyone. You wanted to Jack Boyz, ASAP, road warriors, I don't know what all. The evil Goalie of the North was excited !!!!! He wanted Derwin James drafted, and they did !!! Oh, was he excited !!! All of you. PR was on fire, Keenan Allen was unstoppable. etc etc One year later the guy that acquired this roster needs fired ?? I told you he and Lynn would not be fired, and they weren't. Not one year removed from 2018. Wait until TT adds Simmons to that defence......DJ will really be loving things.

So what you are saying is somewhere around 20 to 25 GM are failures and need to be replaced?

Probably, yes, if they have had a material period of time without substantive improvements and trends towards better player acquisition.

Some owners you can tell are football people, and some are money people... Sadly the Spanos are neither. That’s why the Chargers can only be successful by hiring proven winners at GM and HC who are strong enough to put the Spanos clan and their effed up DNA in the background. Look at the history.

Beathard got us to a SB. Butler established a plan that AJ may have screwed up. Cutting Jr & Rodney to get cap space without replacing their talent may have cost us a SB. That was all GM.

Beathard and Butler were the GM’s with previous success. AJ was a first timer. If Butler hadn’t died things may have been different. Coryell walked into a good situation talent wise and figured out how to maximize it. Gilman was just genius level.

Is their underperformance on the GM ? He acquired people that went 13-5 in 2018. How is 5-11 then on him ?

It seems to me that when this team faces adversity in the way of a major player going out with an injury, the rest of the team cannot compensate physically or mentally.

Both questions are answered with some yes, and some no.... In my view, TT has failed miserably with OL.....and Lynn and staff have failed in many ways. Such as bringing creativity and focus on a weekly basis. The fix.....move on from Lynn, and try to figure out where the disconnect is in OL evaluations, then correct it.

TT's fascination with these diamond in the rough players seems like something left over from the AJ era, which leads me to think its a Spanos influence. Its not just the oline either... Might be a ridiculous tin foil hat theory, but I honestly think they go after some guys in the draft they feel will be cheaper to retain.

GM answer is yes. and its proven with a 13-5 2018 season WITH the oline we had. Injuries started our Crazy Train off the rails for 2019, things went to hell after that. That's on the coaching. I mean sure, maybe we could only hustle for 8-8. But 5-11 ? That is directly a product of coaching.

Size of school might be a consideration, but it can't be a huge one. The only aspect that carries any influence in the overall evaluation would be level of competition. Early round 'diamond in the rough' players.....such as Tillery, or Adderly ? Not too sure they were considered as such, as both seemed like solid PON picks. Are not all later round picks 'projects' to an extent? As far as the "cheaper to retain" theory goes, I just do not see any sports management professionals participating in such a scheme. Which would mean it was an owner only conspiracy, with J Spanos making every decision in the draft. Do you believe he is doing so?
