Not only is he on pace to have the greatest rookie season of any rookie EVER in the modern Super Bowl era; on a 3 win caliber team— but as noted in thread title it appears we were blessed the Phins took TUA ahead of us and the childhood chargers fan fell in our lap.
We aren’t lucky often as chargers fans, kids. I’m certainly glad we were this time.

I wouldn't read too much into Tua being benched. However, I cannot argue Herbert was a terrific pick.

I think this year has the potential to be remembered as a contender for year of the QB class ala 1983, 2004, etc.

I can't believe Tua was benched... Horrible horrible move by Flores.

I can't believe Tua was benched... Horrible horrible move by Flores. Flores wanted to win the game (they’re unexpectedly in the thick of the playoff hunt) and Tua was 11-20 for 83 yards and sacked 6 times. Fitzpatrick came in, attempted 18 passes and wasn’t sacked. It sounds like Tua wasn’t up to speed on reading the Donkos defense well enough to get the passes out of his hand. Flores has already stated that Tua remains the starter.

If I'm Tua I think my job will never be safe under Flores... Bad move. Keep the rookie in and learn... Being concerned about injury is one thing, but 11-20 for 83 yards is not terrible and its likely not his fault.

It is terrible and they said he was holding the ball too long. 6 sacks and almost broke his ankle on the last one. Tua should be thanking Flores

Tua should be thanking Flores I'm not saying he didn't have a bad game, but how much of it was play calling vs. Tua himself?
Miami played poorly as a whole. IMHO no justification for benching Tua.

I bet you guys would feel totally different if Herbert was benched and Tyrod was put in under similar circumstances.
/agreed Freak
I think he should be done, it was a great run.

In the case herbert struggles, leaving him in works to get him work through adversity. makes it a learning experience. If the game is close and you are winning, then Tyrod wins it, its the right call. If no win, I think the water would be too muddled to call it the wrong or right one, esp if he was as bad as Tua was. the other difference here is who is the back up.

Also does go to show that Miami had likely put him in too early for the sake pressure caused by Herbert and Burrow playing well.
