ESPN reported that sources say Lynn's job is 50-50 right now. I'm wondering if they call it 50-50 because they haven't received any kind of feedback on which way the decision will go. I get liking Lynn's control and the respect he commands in the locker room, but that's all for naught when gameday decisions and clock management in pressure situations are consistently messed up. They have to wipe the slate clean and build around the young core of the roster with a focus on providing their 22-year-old franchise QB protection and a scheme that maximizes his abilities. I would tend to agree, the media has received no 'heads up' from anyone credible in the organization, so it is a 50/50 guess currently. It would not surprise me if the Spanos clan has not even had a conversation about this yet.....sorta fits with how disconnected they are with things.

herbert is a good passing QB, Lynn is a run focused coach to a fault. The two do not mix.

Jay Glazer reports that there is a meeting scheduled for Lynn and Spanos tomorrow (sounds like it's based on a solid lead), and Glazer believes that Lynn is gone (sounds like opinion to me). We will see.

I'm to understand 50-50 WAS the feedback they got. I'm with you guys, I don't think Lynn's body of work this year was good. I concur with clock management, and I would add his halftime adjustments were bad, bad. I try to give you guys different angles to think about. Here is the key my attorney friend: Is there a big league coach they can get ? Is he out there/do they have any shot at him coming to the Chargers ? That can be way more of a factor than any of you are giving enough credence to.

They are risking two mistakes versus one. You let your coach go, and you weren't smart enough to have his replacement ?? Is there some reason they can't learn from Belichick and illegal tamper the hell out of everyone ??

And I don’t know what I’d call “big league”, but I sure wouldn’t mind them seeking out a guy like the Bills OC Brian Daboll. I’d love to see him work with Hair Bear.

Um....that would be an example of NOT big league.

I think they have just as good a chance as many other clubs not named Jaguars. Herbert gives Spanos alot more appeal than he normally would have.

Marrone out for Jags. Urban back to FLA no doubt. AL's odds now 51-49. Case dismissed with prejudice.

Now that Lynn is gone—thankfully—I’ll take a closer look at some of the specific candidates. In the meantime, at present, I’d express my preferences generally, ranked in this order:
1) Someone with at least 3 seasons of NFL HC experience, preferably with at least 51% winning seasons that showed the ability to adapt strategy and tactics to personnel, strong leadership, and high football intelligence. Ex: Belichick, Harbaugh, Del Rio, Caldwell
2) Someone with significant HC experience, preferably with at least some winning seasons that showed the ability to adapt strategy and tactics to personnel, strong leadership, and high football intelligence. Ex: David Shaw, Brian Kelly
3) Someone with significant NFL senior staff (coordinator) coaching experience, preferably with at least 2 seasons of strongly performing team units (offense, special teams, defense) that showed the ability to build and execute a coherent strategy and tactics, strong leadership, and high football intelligence.
Ex: Daboll, Toub, Saleh, Smith, Bieniemy
