The one thing that stood out to me is our draft was that it was pretty much a product of the lack of in person scouting that was a result of the Covid 19 pandemic. There was no combine for coaches to find a "hidden gem" from a smaller program. All were from known programs except Rumph from Duke and 5 of the picks from the 3rd round on were in the senior bowl. We filled most glaring holes except Safety and a lot of the picks in the later rounds are considered standouts on Special Teams. I would have liked them to have taken Bledsoe at 185 instead of Niemann. The important thing is all these drafted players are now Chargers so I am hoping that they can contribute to a successful season. It will be nice to see us become the 2nd team to win a Superbowl in our home stadium. Just a great post about trying to scout during covid. Nominated POTDraft.

They went almost exclusively OL in FA and handed out some big money. They basically completely replaced the OL. I am shocked that OL people would still say not enough. It’s not like the team doesn’t have other needs. I’m not O-line people, I saw a glaring need that needed to be addressed and I’m relieved it was. I won’t be pounding the table for O-line next year especially if aboushi pans out and they decide to resign him. There is an outside shot that jaimes might become the starting RT in 2022. So next year the chargers might only need to address O-line depth in the mid to lower rounds. One guy might do the trick next year, someone that can play both center and guard. I bet the same applies to most of us that wanted a franchise LT which we now seem to have unless slater proves he can’t handle the job. I’m really confident he will be a fantastic LT. I don’t know about you but I was surprised that they only drafted 2 DBs, especially after all that talk by staley. I thought for sure that they’d draft at least three defensive backs. Apparently the coaches thought that O-line was still as big a need as DB because they drafted 2 of each. The ones that caught me off guard the most were WR and RB, those spots seemed filled until next year but these guys are already looking ahead. looks like next year I’ll be pounding the table for edge and DT in the first two rounds. Then maybe a legit RB and a another WR. Are you going to call me “edge people” next year? If you want 9 edge players, then.................yeah.

Ekeler is not a feature back for an entire season and the other guys are just other guys. WR is about planning for 2022 and beyond. TT said the draft isn’t just about the 2021 season. You have to have guys developing at multiple positions so you’re squad is solid year in and year out. LB and edge are needs as well. They worked on one side of the line. We lost more games due to defense and st then we did because of offense. Staley must think he can work some magic on the defensive side of the ball with the guys we have now. Why magic? That would imply you’re not high on the talent level on defense. Look how the defense ranked overall despite the lack of ingenuity on the part of bradley to get the most out of players that didn’t fit his scheme perfectly. staley is not a magician but just like with the rams he will get production from “unexpected sources” on defense. who those guys are as things stand right now remains to be seen. My not so bold prediction is that jones and tillery will have breakout years up front, followed by tranquil, white, owosu, and murray all having increased productivity. Then followed by a superstar in DJ leading a talented secondary with solid corners and adderly poised to also breakout. Quality depth is seemingly the biggest issue on defense but staley showed last year that guys could fill in at a high level for the rams. guys like ryan smith and fackrell could surprise everyone

Staley must think he can work some magic on the defensive side of the ball with the guys we have now. Reportedly Staley is high on both Adderly and Gilman which would explain why safety wasn't targeted before the 7th round. Staley will employ an entirely different scheme than Bradley where defenses will be disguised with (hopefully) unexpected methods of attack. I still could potentially see a veteran safety being signed in post-draft free agency where salaries are being suppressed. I agree, watkins and addae are familiar to the organization and staley could easily research those guys if he wants to, neither has signed with anyone yet. The former charger cut by the panthers is another possibility at safety, sorry can’t remember the name ATM. Melvin Ingram is still out there and who knows, he might be wanting to stick around like we’ve seen so many veterans do across the NFL taking less money to stay in familiar situations. The former steeler CB nelson is still on the street in case they want to add experience at that position. the chargers are one of the big reasons KC threw so much money out there this offseason. Yes, getting trounced in the SB was a factor but the chargers are like that T-rex in the rear view mirror on jurrasic park “object closer than may appear” kind of thing.

It’s okay to be wrong every now and again, the team needed to address O-line and in particular LT early in the draft and they did. So you “WR people” didn’t get another toy until the third round, big deal, it’s time to move on...

Yes magic. But a great coach can pull that off. You’re basically counting on Staley to turn guys who have been so so pro players like Jones, Tillery, Adderley, White, Nwosu a d god knows who at corner into killers. Right now Jones, Tillery and white are the equivalent of Feeney, Lamp and Tevi.

In an earlier post you talked about developing players, well, being a “so so pro” for a couple years is sometimes what development looks like. Patience, right now you are acting like jones, tillery, adderly, and nwosu are stuck frozen in time incapable of growth and they could be growing as players especially with this new staff. I don’t like your comparison with tevi, feeney, and lamp because nwosu, jones, tillery, white, and adderly have ALL flashed at some point, that’s not something you can say about our dearly departed O-linemen

There seem to be several A / A+ grades bandied about for our bolts. Encouraging, and I'm looking forward to the coming season. Though, don't tell the goalie. He thinks our draft sucked, probably because it wasn't 9 OL. How so? I have only had time to comment on the first four picks. Two were very solid picks, and two were a bit of the head scratcher variety, in my view. Hardly a "He thinks our draft sucked" evaluation on my part. I was preaching OL because the Bolts did not have the worst DB group, LB group, DL group, RB group, WR group......but they did in fact have the worst OL group in the entire league.

Disc, we are “o-line” people, don’t argue just accept the shame honestly it’s an improvement over being called crack addicts, I think it’s inexcusable to resort to name calling of fellow charger fans when they don’t agree with all your opinions. It certainly says more about you guys out there encouraging that immature bull sheeet and participating in it. The bolt should bring people together and those of you that can’t handle differing opinions grow the #$&$ up, seriously we’re all charger fans here.

Yes, I find the petty comments less than acceptable, but it is such on a site as this. Clearly as it gets, the Bolts understood their needs, and all one need look at is the focus with FA/Draft......OL was a very big priority.

Yes, lots of chapped hides over not getting a slot WR at #13, I’m just happy those guys were gone by then otherwise the cacophony of bovine feces and gas might be unbearable. So the team did what the “o-line crack addict people” wanted so maybe TT and staley are in the club too
