The news story broke on 8/6/2021 but I didn’t read it until Sunday when I got home from fan fest. I’m only posting this late because I was sure someone else would put it up days ago.
A Charger legend is dead, he’s another charger that should’ve been inducted into the HOF a long time ago but he didn’t play in dallas, pittsburg, or chicago. So even though those teams revolutionized offensive football in the NFL, he and many of that charger era get overlooked including Coryell himself.
I must’ve seen him in person 40-50 times at his carwash on Plaza Blvd. I used to love looking at his old photos with charger players from his era and was always amazed at how massive he was even in his 70s he was much thinner than his playing days but he was still a huge man, he looked good for his age, he was always there working at the carwash. They haven’t said how he died but I wouldn’t rule out covid because he looked so fit, he was 74 years old…

Damn, that’s very sad. 😞
RIP Mr Washington, a legit Chargers legend. 🙏

How in the living hell are you an O-Lineman of the year, a 5 time Pro Bowler, have a 15 year long career, and NOT be in the Hall of Fame ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! PS with those stats he would be making about 23 million dollars a year today.

From 79-83 the chargers had one of the best offensive lines in the entire NFL, washington, shields, macek, wilkerson, and white. Not one of them is in the hall, they were part of ‘air coryell’ a revolutionary offense that changed the NFL game, they not only pass blocked but they also led the league in rushing and rushing touchdowns one of those years.
