Staley said he liked our LB group. I feel really good about the 2 LB's we put on the practice squad. If emergency arises, we have 2 solid ones on the PS.

I know they don’t hence the wink. I believe coach was trying to score points with the players, especially since he’s switching the system a bit, there have been rumblings that the players don’t appreciate the difference in salary between 4-3 DEs and 3-4 OLBs as it pertains to the franchise tag. Both are “edge” players that specialize in pressuring the QB so players that play OLB want the same pay scale as DE guys get

Well well well, congratulations to the kid from regina,  everybody was saying he was a longshot but here he is making what is probably the final version of the initial roster before attrition takes hold. I liked that pick six he had last year against flacco so I’m happy he won this staff over too  as for that 16th spot on the practice squad? Well, now we know why they didn’t fill it, they’re waiting for hall to clear waivers.

I’ve read several articles about the 2021 practice squad rule changes. This one, from the detroit lions website of all places, I found easiest to understand. Some interesting new wrinkles, like you can increase your roster to 55 players for a any game temporarily as need arises without exposing those two extra players to waivers. They automatically revert back to the practice squad but will earn a prorated pay check for the week as a result. The thing is it can on be done twice during the length of the season with each individual member of the practice squad. So 2x16 is more than enough for every team to literally have 55 players available every sunday, activation not withstanding of course. This is going to add incentive for teams to have a more balanced practice squad with many positions represented so they don’t have to put people on IR for minor lingering injuries while still having coverage in terms of depth. And with 4 players on the practice squad fully protected from poaching, I really like the flexibility this is giving modern coaches. Off of COVID / IR list, and onto the IR list. 🤷♂️ I guess they had to go through the Kemon waiver process before placing Smith on IR so that they wouldn’t expose him to waivers.
