The tough part would be finding enough co-conspirators to actually do this, so not a chance in heck. The league would hear about this and put a firm foot down......as in millions in fines for all involved. Players live for this type of game, they are never throwing that away...... I see what your saying but this is a loophole without legal room for the league to act.
I don't think it will happen with Staley for sure. But it is only the integrity of the leaders of these football teams keeping them from doing it. This is an incentive to eliminate the tie.
A fun conversation for sure.
Legal loophole aside, anyone that diminishes the brand to the extent that this would, is getting a huge fine. The integrity you speak up runs through every player as much or more so than coaching staff. Nobody would participate....nobody. There is no incentive to change to format, as a tie is rare......and generally matter little at season end. It is a great conversation item for fans and media to go on about......no question about that.

Part of the problem is Cook appears to be giving up on routes. Then again, perhaps the routes are designed to have Cook appear to give up in order to confuse the defense. 🧠|

There is a scenario where a tie in our game sends both the chargers and the raiders to the playoffs as the 6th and 7 seed. Jags beat the colts (far fetched) Steelers beat the Ravens.. (possible) If those games go down as above then the chargers and the raiders are both in the dance with a tie. So riddle me this, why wouldn't they do this? Kick touch-backs at the start of each half then take a knee and punt for 60 minutes plus 10 of OT and get a free bye to rest everyone up for the dance. The league would stop it...... As do I. It’s all theoretical in that it would never ever happen, but it would irreparably damage the Chargers franchise. Just the thought of them going along with the Raiduhs in this type of scheme makes me want to 🤮!! What I could see in the very off-chance the Colts lose a game against the woeful Jags (albeit they haven’t won in Jacksonville since 2016) is as follows: IF the game goes deep into OT and the Chargers or Raiduhs have the ball in their own territory and can run out the clock for a tie that puts both teams in, they will do so. That’s it. |
