Return vs. Capital So now we come to the true test of drafting ability. How much return did each team get relative to the draft capital it had? We can find out by dividing each team's draft return by its draft capital in each year, then expressing that as a percentage. A score of 100% means that teams got the talent they were expected to get given how much draft capital they had. That's a league-average GM in drafting ability.
Same time frame..........The Chargers were 25th on that chart.

I've made this argument before in my criticism of TT but was blasted for it... The Pats have had notoriously bad drafts as well but somehow manage to make the playoffs thanks to Belichick. We have (overall) mediocre drafts and hire bad coaches, so the results have spoken for themselves.

Now you might have been challenged, but blasted.....nope. That said, I am not a buyer of what Freak is selling. There are simply too many aspects that might, or might not, influence any rookie player's performance. Opportunity is a big one of those aspects......HC likes veteran players, and hates rookies......never gives the rookie a chance. Rookie doesn't show well, gets released......and then picked up by another club, and does well. OR......the TYPE of opportunity......only sees fourth quarter play in preseason games, versus being sent out there with the starters. The reasons rookies fail is endless.....and it isn't primarily because the drafting club is bad at drafting.

From what I have seen written their draft needs are QB & OL the WR God bless these teams that need to draft a QB. I praise heaven that we are not in that boat this year. QB class is really bad.

I have seen many places where the Steelers want our 17th pick in trade for their 20th pick. They are targeting the Liberty QB, just love him. I wonder if they are spooked by the Saints taking him at 16th now...........

At 17 the Chargers just need to trust THEIR Big Board. Look for falling players, then just trust their board. They will have multiple players in mind at 17, and just hit the top of their list. Falling........I'm sure they crapped themselves when Derwin James was still on the board at 17. I promise you they thought he would be long gone by then. It happens, and that is what makes #17 such a great spot for us to draft in.

Just put those 4 on your big board and wait to see who's there at #17. Easy peasey.

I kinda don't think we'll go there because of K9, but I'd be happy if we did. Lloyd appears to be a bigger hitter, and is clearly a sideline to sideline effort type.....and more talented than K9 I believe. Big hitting in college ball is nice, but doing the same at the Pro level is far more challenging, just ask K9. I still think he becomes a very good ILB, and would take him before any of the others listed above......not that the Chargers need an ILB.
