Zion lead pff's all rookie OL and run blocking was his strength. The Chargers sucked at run blocking as a team effort. His overall score was 64.8. He allowed 5 sacks and had 6 penalties. Those are reasons for me to say he needs to step up. What do you think ? If we collectively sucked at run blocking, can we collectively take a leap forward with Kellen and Co. ? Yes.
Most obvious: spread the D out with our pass game. '22's depth of throw avg left D's stacked at the LOS. Schematic use of motion and auxiliary blockers. KM is a top mechanic, Lombardi hadn't a clue. Sequencing. Surprise the D occasionally.
I don't expect a top rushing O, we're built to throw.
We should be a decent average on the ground as a team.

17th would be a massive improvement.

Yes, they can with Zion shifting over to his collegiate position (left guard) between Slater & Linsley, and Salyer moving to his projected NFL position after exceeding all expectations at the left tackle island. And despite many doubts from board members, Pipkins made the jump to a legit NFL starting tackle and showed toughness by playing with a significant knee sprain in 2022. Along with successfully adapting to Moore’s offensive scheme, oline health will be the major factors for success in 2023. I’m confident that they will successfully adapt to the offensive scheme. Health? 🤷♂️

They both have 1 year experience, and it is not at their last year position. Further, they played all year and the unit sucked unit in run blocking. Still not fired up about the running game ? Pipkins was playing for his contract year last year, he can go straight back to his Jared Gaither playing ways. (oh yeah, I went there.) REACT AS I DEMAND WE NOT BE 30TH IN RUSHING AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As training camp starts Coach Freak says: "You have to be able to run when everyone in the stadium knows you are going to run."

They were playing out of position in 2022. They will be playing in their natural positions in 2023 (and for Zion, the only position he had ever played at before 2022).That’s what I said. Simple as that. I'm expecting a big jump in oline play in 2023 - not hoping, expecting!

This is a ridiculous take... Chargers were 3rd best passing attack, 30th best rushing attack, pretty easy to recognize Ekeler's success came off of the efforts of Herbert and the WR group. It clearly is not just the OL, or scheme.....the RB's own the poor results just as much....and Ekeler was the primary guy, right? The defence was too busy covering the WR's, giving Ekeler a bunch of easy TD's.... Ekeler is worth the 6 mil/yr, but not much more..... He will go elsewhere next year, and be mediocre there. Do we get to the playoffs without Ekeler's 18 TD's? This team is remarkably worse with just Kelly, Rountree, and Spiller. Your hate of Ekeler is blinding you.

Absolutely..... 8 of those TD's just get spread among the WR's.....4 go to the TE's, 3 go to Kelly, 2 go to Herbert just running it in himself. So that comes up one short......well worth it to lose that 'pay me pay me' safety,,,errr, runningback.

Ek is always 110% prepared to give the team 110% of his effort whenever he steps into the weight room, locker room, practice field and playing field. Ek is also a very intelligent dude, and literally everybody who is a football fan recognizes that the running back position is clearly screwed by the CBA that has another 7 years to run. The $$$ level for the RB has decreased over the past three years as salaries for all other skill positions have sharply increased. That's due to the abuse that an NFL RB takes shortens the player's career much more than the other positions. Shrewd GM's recognize that the way to approach the position is to allow the RB to play out the length of the rookie contract (5 years for 1st round picks, 4 years for other picks & UFA's), franchise tag for one season, and let the player walk / bring him back due to a depressed market that comes from reluctance to pay the position as a player approaches age 30. I see Ekeler as advocating for other RB's who are on their current rookie contracts. Unlike guys who flash & burn their cash, Ek has enough $$$ to last several lifetimes and I personally expect him to parlay his wealth through smart business decisions. I understand Barkley's attitude right now regarding his inability to hit the market in the prime of his career, but I would not be happy as a Giants fan because he'll be pulling an MGIII to start the season. As bad as it is, the best available option is to suck it up with the franchise tag, roll the dice regarding the NFL addressing the situation in 2024 while hitting the market at the same time. That will not happen with Ek: he'll be there Day 1 of camp fit as a fiddle and preparing himself for the season opener.

Ekeler is under contract.....TT was nice enough to add in the extra money via easily attained bonus clauses just to keep the focus on this season. Essentially, to shut Ekeler up. The market is the market, and they make very good money to be in NFL. Clearly there is no shortage of RB's looking for NFL job, eh Barkley is not under contract, he can do as he chooses under the options available to him in the current CBA. His choice will be interesting to see..... Again, Ekeler is under contract, and as such, he is obligated to show up ready to perform.....as are all players under contract.

We're talking about last year... At least I am. Ekeler was a LARGE part of our offense last year and will be again this year. You are simply wrong in your assessment of his ability, work ethic, and motivations.

I am looking at this next year, but using last season's statistics as the basis for expectations going forward. The RB position will contribute 6-10 TD's, with the rest of Ekeler's TD's distributed easily via WR group. I do not agree with your statement regarding my assessment. Ekeler is a good RB, works hard, great motivation. Unfortunately, Ekeler chose to try and force an overpayment of his services while under contract. Yes, he added money to his last year of said contract, but at a cost of his reputation. Ekeler's attempt at changing the RB pay scale is like holding back the tide, a waste of his time. He wants both money and term, at 30.....the system won't do that.
