We’ll know soon enough about the mystery man. Jerry West has been known to entice a FA or two. I can see justifications for any of the 3 teams still supposedly in the running.

So Kevon Looney, who was playing for the Warriors through major pain in the NBA Finals with a broken collarbone, (after being ruled out for the series) gets a huge reward for that.
A 3-year $15 million contract to return to the team, expected to be their starting Center....WOW ! Talk about a show of gratitude, Warriors.
Being a re-sign, they could have paid him anything up to the max, there would just be luxury tax added to it. Durant isn’t expected play at all next year, but I’m sure the Warriors wouldn’t have had trouble finding the $20+ million in a luxury tax penalty attached to his $40 million contract price for next year alone. For Looney though, they could only manage to find $15 million over 3 years, for a guy who lives up to the team name.
If that doesn’t squash any perception that the Warriors don’t care about the well being of their players, I don’t know what will...

I think Looney could have signed for more $$ elsewhere. If anything I think he is the one making the concession to stay with the Warriors. Oh...I read it again. Your post is soaked in sarcasm, I think.

I hate to agree with this but I do. I think if Leonard was staying he would have announced it at the parade, or as soon as FA began. Although Chopper's point may be valid because....it would leave the Raptors in a tough spot if they miss out on the top FAs and THEN Leonard leaves. After all the goodwill he built in Toronto/Canada, it would be cold thing to do....delay the decision and then leave. The Raptors are already $3.17 million over the salary cap, even if Kawhi doesn’t resign, so they were never in the game for any Free Agents other than those who will play for league minimum salary (and they are free to make those signings anytime). They can exceed the cap to resign Kawhi (and Danny Green if they really want to), but will be subject to the luxury tax penalty. The reason I say the longer this drags out, the better for the Raptors, is because they can wait for him and won’t be passing up anything. The Lakers and Clippers on the other hand have already missed out on the other top tier free agents, and at some point will have to switch gears if the waiting period gets too long, and use up their cap space on others. The Raptors don’t have to worry about cap space. Interesting. I haven't looked at the Raptors cap situation...certainly changes things. MLSE can afford the Luxury Tax, no problem. I still think he goes to the Clippers.....but I would prefer he stay in Toronto. With rumors circulating saying Kawhi is heading to the Lakers it becomes less likely he goes there. I think he told all teams to say NOTHING to the media to "test" them....the more Laker related rumors from "inside sources" will lead Leonard to choose the Raptors or Clippers in my opinion.

Just when I thought you FINALLY may have learned your lesson, about making your emphatic predictions, you bring this forward. Just to recap a few of the latest: * The Bucks would destroy the Raptors - you were wrong * The Raptors would need to score 130 points per night to beat the Bucks - to no surprise way off * The Raptors were going down in the Finals to “the assasins” - wrong again * James Harden was the run away winner for MVP - Nope Now, Kawhi is going to the Lakers for sure... BTW, you’ve made it clear as ever, that you know nothing about Kawhi....he doesn’t like records or the spotlight. He’s a socially awkward guy that likes to keep quiet. He even drove around his car he had in College for a few years after he was in the NBA.

Since when have professional sports teams paid more than required to sign a player? If anything Looney’s agent failed. There is no requirement, and yes the agent could have done a much better job. There has been a lot of chatter since the incidents of the Finals, of the Warriors trying to do some things to shed the negative image that has recently been cast on them (rushing guys back from injury and not caring about their well being). This would have been a great opportunity. Looney got robbed when the guy was deserving of a bonus, after going above & beyond for the good of the team, in the Finals.

Since when have professional sports teams paid more than required to sign a player? If anything Looney’s agent failed. I think it is more Looney wanting to play for the team and taking a "home-town discount" rather than and agent failure. The problem with that theory is that a home town discount would be to save cap space for the good of the team. The Warriors are over the cap, regardless of what they signed Looney for, so it was a non-factor. The only thing his extremely team friendly deal did was keep more money in the pockets of the Ownership, while he goes out and puts his body on the line for them to profit off. Ownership would have burned $20+ million in luxury tax penalty next year, without Durant even appearing in a game, if he was gonna stay. So they could have done much better than the measly $5 million per year for Looney, especially after he went above & beyond in the Finals.

GSW to Looney: "We will offer you $5M/yr to play for us, that is the most we are willing to offer." Looney to GSW: "OK" He had every opportunity to turn the offer down and test the market. He chose to stay there. I don't think it reflects poorly on Looney or the Warriors. Comparing the willingness to pay the Luxury Tax for Durant vs paying it for Looney is just not a fair comparison. Yes....Looney is a real Warrior and played through injury for his team, but he stayed for less using his own free will. Looney is a nice player, but like him or not....Durant is an all-time great talent.

Best Free Agent Deals. www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-free-agency-2019-kevon-looney-back-to-warriors-derrick-rose-to-pistons-among-10-best-high-value-deals-this-summer/1. Kevon Looney, Golden State Warriors (3 years, $15M) When the Warriors turned the loss of Kevin Durant into a sign-and-trade for D'Angelo Russell, and reportedly agreed to give him a four-year, $117 million max contract, it hard capped their 2019-20 payroll at $139 million, meaning they can't exceed that number next season under any circumstances -- even to re-sign their own players. In Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Russell alone, Golden State has almost $120 million invested in just four players, leaving them with less than $25 million to fill out the rest of the team. More on NBA Free Agency Updating free agency rumors roundup Everyone assumed Kevon Looney was a goner. Instead, the Warriors get him on a three-year, $15 million deal, which is somewhere between high value and downright unbelievable. People who only pay attention to the glamour of the Warriors have no idea how important Looney has become. He gets them extra possessions on the offensive glass. He defends. He rebounds. It is not an exaggeration to say he is perhaps the difference in them remaining a title contender, and they got him for $5 million a season? It is shocking nobody offered him more than that, or if they did, that he didn't take it. Either way, the Warriors win huge with this one.
