Kawhi's flight touched down in Toronto from LAX.
A Toronto media chopper followed the vehicle he got in from the airport and showed the video live on TV like the OJ chase. The location of the meeting also leaked out and a large crowd of people are waiting outside of the hotel.
This can't be a positive development for Mr.Leonard's desire for privacy.

I’m not worried about that. He played in Toronto for a year already, and knows what to expect from the fans & City. He’s not going into that meeting to say, “well I was gonna come back, but since this circus happened, forget it”. The fact that he came to them in Toronto, instead of them having to fly out to him for the meeting, says a lot to me. I’m feeling really good about this...

Jalen Rose says it’s 99% certain that Kawhi returns to Toronto on a 2 year deal.

Here’s my prediction:
* Kawhi signs a 2 year deal with the Raptors (the second year being a player option, which he ultimately declines next offseason).
* This doesn’t get announced until Saturday, which is the first day any and all of these reported FA signings to date, can become official.
* The douches at Fox Sports 1, go crazy over the fact that he left Toronto without a deal announced, and spin it as he must he signing elsewhere. Chris Broussard once again announces that it’s a done deal he goes to the Lakers, Shannon Sharpe creams his pants from the excitement, and Skip Bayless says “I told you so” and throws in a few jabs about “#2”. Colin Cowherd will find some unprecedented way to create controversy over the situation, which gets him a lifetime endorsement deal with Summers Eve. Then come Saturday, the deal gets announced, and they once again all look like the fools that most know they are...there is no shortage of laughter across North America at their expense.
* Next offseason we do this whole thing over again, but the difference is the Raptors will have a boatload of cap space to work with. They replace their aging semi-stars with legit young talent. Kawhi once again signs a 2 year deal with the Raptors, and ultimately declines the player option in year two.
* 2 years from now, he has the tenure requirements to qualify for a Supermax deal. He makes his long term decision at that point.

Key is 2 years from now he’ll be able to get the really big payday. Wasn’t aware of any of those nuances.

Right here, you’ll see that I told you exactly that on 6/15, and what your smart ass response was: losangeleschargers.proboards.com/post/7730

That’s crazy.

Why on earth would he turn that down and sign ANOTHER 2 year deal ?

That’s crazy. Did you ever consider that maybe I knew that info, sometime before the moment I decided to post it here ? This might also sound crazy, but enjoying the Championship run took priority over educating the fair-weathered fans, of the teams that want to poach my team’s by far most important player.

He makes his long term decision at that point. Huh ? Doesn't he qualify for the 10 year Supermax deal that takes him percentages over the top contract in 1-2 years from now ? Why on earth would he turn that down and sign ANOTHER 2 year deal ? 3 years of tenure with your current team is required, to qualify for the supermax. He has 1, therefore needs another 2. If you pay attention to the details I listed above (particularly the parts where he declines a player option in the 2nd year of a 2 year contract - twice), it has him playing for the Raptors a total of 2 more years, before he makes his long term decision. Come that time, he could re-sign with the Raptors for a 5-year supermax (for the most $ available to him), or he could also chose to sign on with the Lakers then as LeBron will likely be gone and the Lakers would become his team right from the start. Contrary to what you seem to believe, playing 2nd fiddle to LeBron is not something major superstars are lining up to do, he’s much more of a deterrent than a reason for a guy like Kawhi to want to join the Lakers. I explained all this on 6/15, and even re-posted it for your BHC brother last night. Since you missed it the first two times, maybe the 3rd time will be the charm (but I’m not getting my hopes up or anything). Here, once again, is the link to that post: losangeleschargers.proboards.com/post/7724There are a few reasons it would make more sense for him to go through the short term process of a 1 year + player option twice, as opposed to just signing and playing out a 2 year contract once. Including the following: * After next season he would at least have the option to leave (assuming he’s OK with giving up money in the big picture). NOTE - he already left a boatload of money on the table with the Spurs to get out of a terrible situation. I don’t think he does it again, considering he currently has a great situation. * After next season he would have the chance to renegotiate a higher salary for himself for the ‘20-21 season * If he likes the Raptors long-term, he could also give a home-town discount for the ‘20 - ‘21 season, for the good of re-loading the roster. Let the money he defers go towards signing some quality new teammates, and maybe even get in on the recruiting process. He’ll get his pre-determined supermax contract amount starting in his first year of eligibility (the ‘21- ‘22 season), so giving up a little bit of money for the good of the team the prior year, won’t phase him a bit.

Just found this....although I don't know if any of the rumours surrounding Kawhi can be believed: Leonard has officially met with all the teams that are pursuing him, so now he'll take some time to weigh his options. The Raptors reportedly had a strong meeting yesterday, with Drake being heavily involved and even offering him a role on his OVO record label, but the Los Angeles teams remain very much in play. For what it's worth, the reporting is that no 1-plus-1 deals have been discussed, which suggests that when he does put pen to paper, it'll be on a long-term, four or five-year deal.
