Not sure why though, as it would almost certainly mean increased NFLPA membership, and the accompanying increase in dues revenue. Players should not care too much, as it forces each player to not play at some point in the season, twice.....lose the bye week, and the NFL is only adding a single week to the length of season....unless they did as you mentioned with cutting pre-season games. Unknown reserve players get a shot to show their stuff......what is not to like about this?

In reply to the bolded section: I believe this is just negotiating posture. The NFLPA knows that ownership wants a 18 game season. I'm guessing that the rosters will expand too. I believe that it will shake out as 18 games over 20 weeks, giving ownership 3 more weeks of TV revenue and the players 2 more weeks of salary. Fans should like it because one preseason game will become a regular season game. I think the 16 games per player is baloney. NASCAR has plans to postpone their season so as not to interfere with the playoffs and the super bowl.

If the season goes to 18 games, they will start TC sooner. 16 games is a grind and the player get beat up. I figure, they just do not want to add to the grind

TC starts normal time, one less pre-season game, no bye week, that should give them the 18 games in a similar time frame as currently planned out. When a player is deemed on his 'can't play' game, he actually can't participate the entire week, giving each player two weeks off during the season, so the 'grind' is pretty close to the same as now. They would have expanded rosters, and cap, but by how much is the question. Two time a season we would see a different QB than Rivers, that alone would make things interesting. The new CBA should be quite a challenge for the two sides.

However this goes forward, this new "revenue source" is something that the NFLPA can leverage into having the NFL make other concessions in return (i.e., larger rosters, rest during season / offseason, marijuana policy, etc.).
As for the NFL being in decline, Andrew Brandt points this out to those actively rooting for it:
Number 9 is the Colts-Chiefs playoff game, and number 10 is the Chargers-Ravens playoff game.

My guess is that it would be 2 preseason games, the season starting one week earlier, 18 regular season games with two byes, and the season finishing two weeks later. All players are eligible to play all 18 games but with an expanded roster. The super bowl would be played two weeks later with the Daytona 500 bumped by two weeks. (NASCAR is well aware that they'd lose viewership if they were to compete head to head.) The regular season would be bumped from 17 weeks to 20 weeks meaning more money for everyone.

NFL is very popular. Even though they dipped over two years over anthem protests. But they are back and however,18 game seasons would have to be with twobyes.

As a fan, I hate the bye week now.....can't support having to suffer through two bye weeks. Besides, look how much fun it will be watching how different teams handle sitting certain starters, twice a season. When does Brady sit, or Big Ben, or Mahomes.......or Rivers. That is only the QB's......it could be quite interesting twist to the season.

Indeed. I can't wait to watch the 10 collective games where we're sitting one of our oline starters. Sit two or three at a time. Sit the whole dang thing. Let Tyrod rip in those games (assuming he survives the first one). Basically each team will turn two of their non conference games into preseason week four...
