I may be the only one but I don't think our DB's are "elite". They couldn't cover Edleman, White, or Bronk if they put ten of them out there. To some this will draw a quick reprimand but I think Casey came back to the pack last year. James is the only DB we have that I think is elite. But, if the pass rush picks up in the middle, it would go a long way to make our DB's look good. The guy I think will cause a big improvement in our D is Bosa. He should take a big step forward this year. ESPN thinks we have the best group of CB's in the NFL. We also have the best young safety in the league.
1. Los Angeles Chargers: Los Angeles sports one of the league's best one-two punches at the position in the form of stud shadow/perimeter corner Casey Hayward and third-year slot Desmond King. Trevor Williams and Michael Davis have flashed at times and will compete for the other perimeter job. Versatile CB/S Jaylen Watkins is back from a torn ACL.
ESPN must have missed the playoff game in NE.

ESPN must have missed the playoff game in NE. Nah, they saw New England attack a 7 DB gadget defense that was only on the field due to desperate necessity whose focus was diverted by the physical NE running attack that was gashing the D repeatedly. IMO the DB's will be fine when the Chargers have LB's on the field, especially with guys with the mobility of Davis, Nwosu, White, a stripped down Perryman, etc. and with the pressure that the front four will exert. I predict that the amount of forced turnovers jumps significantly in 2019 as that is their professed off-season motto and purpose.

ESPN must have missed the playoff game in NE. Or perhaps they view that loss differently than you do. The Chargers traveled over 30,000 miles over the course of the regular season. Second most in the NFL (slightly less than the Raiders). By comparison, the Patriots traveled 11,000. The Chargers had the most negligible home field advantage in the NFL last season. They had a grueling run just to make it to the playoffs. By comparison the Patriots had their division wrapped up with over a month left to the season. The Chargers had the 3rd toughest schedule in the NFL last season. The Patriots had the 17th. The Chargers played the week before traveling to Baltimore, where they had really no healthy LB's and still beat one of the most physical teams in the NFL with a bunch of 200 lb DB's. NE had the week off.
It was clear to me that the Bolts had nothing in the tank that day against the Patriots. They got whooped in every facet of the game. You seem to view that loss in a vacuum. I do not. The travel, the opponents fans taking over our stadium, the grueling schedule, the pressure of must win games for a month, and having no healthy LB's played more into that loss than our "suspect" DB's.
But keep on keeping on with that old chestnut.

While all the points you make play a part, the only really valid one impacting that PO game against NE was the injuries. None of it matters, as it is water long gone downstream......

Great post. I didn't know the raiders had the most miles. It's usually Seattle up there. All 3 of us had London too.

His comments were what others put up after the loss. the reply from most was "Good teams find a way." "the opponents fans taking over our stadium, the pressure of must win games for a month". Those are on the team to overcome. Sure. did some play a part. Ask me? LAC had a crappy game plan.

The one that everyone is avoiding is that NE is simply a dynasty.
No matter how you add it up, we looked like living hell out there.
I still don't like it to take away from what I saw as a great season for us.

I get it. You had to walk 6 miles uphill in a blizzard each way to get to kindergarten. I enjoy that your generation views facts as "excuses". It keeps us younger set grounded.

I've been watching this team stink it up in playoffs for too many years to count. I'm done making excuses for them - every team has injury problems by the tine the playoffs arrives.

Roo is tired of waiting!! As disappointing as the NE game was last January, this really could be the year. I don’t see them rolling through the season without at least a handful of adversity, but I believe that they’ll have a better shot at an extended postseason run this season. Bolt up!!!

Its adversity. Some have more of it than others. In the case of the bolts, that is not going to change as long as the East Coast runs the nest.

I forgot about all the traveling. I bet it really is tough sitting in that private jet. I do think they look like a contender on paper but .............. so do several other teams, including two AFC teams that they have a problem handling. Joe is right, I'm tired of waiting. At my age, time is very important. Do it this year Bolts!
