I really think that depends on how well he does and how high on others radars he actually was/will be by TC week 4. Canada doesn't count. I get the thinking that 3rd rounders are valued, but that doesn't mean he actually belonged there. Obviously, I like to see him excel. I like to see MG back in camp too. The bolts have a good shot at the trophy this year. I'll take any advantage. I tend to think Freak's belief they protect their investment in Pipkins will be quite influential in the decision. I also think Pipkins will need to be showing serious promise to make the team versus being put on the practice squad. With a single preseason game completed, it is too soon to have a strong idea which way they might be leaning. Canada always counts....... Je suis entièrement d'accord.

Joey mic'd up? Just Wow! Let's play some football! As bad as the James injury is, it could be worse. I'd much rather have him coming back in mid-Novemberish than have him go out mid-Novemberish. The Bolts have a lot of horses on the defensive side of the ball where Gus (for the most part) can cover up whatever deficiencies there are in Derwin's absence ... especially if Justin Jones and Tillery step up like I saw them last week. And once again, it could be worse: Cam Newton has a walking boot on his foot as he departs the Carolina - NE preseason game with a foot injury. Ron Rivera and Panthers fans have lost consciousness.

James will come in handy Nov-Feb. He may make us over the top dominant on defense. Joey may be the best I've seen of him in that clip. Serious speed, quickness, precision & strength. Oh my. Ingram will feast on fleeing QBs. If Jones & Tillery come through with superior play the DL will be truly formidable.

Did you see the end of Coach Lynn's press conf. today ? Very interesting. Paraphrasing: "Not going to keep the best 53 players, we want the right 53 players." "Its not all about the best, you have to have chemistry, team players.............." Paraphrasing the paraphrase: "MG3, go pound sand."

And to tell the truth, I had not linked up AL's comment before your post. Well done deciphering the shot across the bow that was generic enough not to be "disrespectful".

I had heard about the improvement in Jones. Good to hear that Tillery is off to a good start.

He's talking about cuts at the bottom. If Smallwood is a great team guy they ain't cutting Keenan Allen to keep him for crying out loud.

I took Lynn's comment to mean roster spots will go to players who are available (your greatest ability is availability - Gordon), who best address a need at a specific position and who bring the most value to the total offense or defense going forward. Primary special teams players (K, P, LS) are set. The rest have to play O or D well enough to be good position depth.

Let me FURTHER example there is no Gordon link with Lynn's comment:
If Gordon wants to come back in week 3, Lynn will roll over for his belly to be scratched.
Clear enough ?

I prefer to leave that image out of focus.
But, if Gordon makes his peace with the number crunchers and wants to come back, I have no doubt that Lynn will find room for him on the depth chart until he can prove he's in game shape and has his mind right.

What is wrong with a good belly scratch?

What is wrong with a good belly scratch? Nothing in and of itself. As a spectator sport featuring that duo, I'll pass.
