MGIII would really be rolling the dice in that situation. Chargers would fine him $30,000 for every training camp session missed, and he'd miss out on every regular season game check played prior to his reporting plus four extra paychecks for missing the four preseason games. We can do the math if he stays out until Week 10: he'd essentially be playing the 2019 season for less than seven figures with no safety net should he suffer a serious injury after he reports. The smart move would be reporting in time for Week 1 by either playing for the current $5.5 million & become a UFA at the end of the 2019 season or sign the $10/ million per season offer on the table. We'll see if he makes the smart move. They get paid for preseason games ? No, but you get docked one regular season paycheck for every preseason game that you skip out on if you’re under contract (which MGIII is). Read the CBA - it’s in there, and it’s one of the major reasons why we haven’t seen players under contract holding out over the past 8 seasons. Of course, the team could waive it, but I guarantee it won’t be waived if MGIII holds out until Week 10. For easy reference, I posted the relevant provisions in the Melvin Gordon holdout thread.

You missed my post exchange with Moe quite a while back: IF Bosa has durability issues for the 3rd time in 4 years, then he's gots to wait for his megadeal upon his rookie contract expiration. If Joey wants to get his money early in that situation, he has to take a haircut; if he wants the megadeal, he would have to prove it in year 5 just like Ingram did. A healthy Bosa is much more important to this roster than a healthy Gordon. Bigger impact, and plays a much more difficult to replace position. You can tell Moe all day long, that doesn't mean I'm an idiot.
There is no way in hot hell Bosa has a good year this year and doesn't demand a new contract. By no way, I mean no freakin' way.
C'mon man, its me.
Just a word to the wise, it ain't gonna be easy extending Bosa. He held out as a rookie when compensation was slotted. It won't be slotted next time and if you think Bosa is gonna want to hear that he's been injured blah, blah, blah, you've got another thing coming. Bosa's gonna want top dollar regardless of how his stats compare to Donald, Mack or anyone else. Mark it down. Remember.

Here is the rule: hold out until Week 10, and MGIII will be playing for pennies without a safety net. If I were MGIII, I’d have a good talk with Baggins before I travel down this road. Going to the source:Article 7, Section 7 of the CBA(g) Breach. - Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in Article 42 or Article 4, after the Club has exercised its Fifth-Year Option, any unexcused late reporting to or absence from preseason training camp by a player in the fifth League Year of his contract (the option year) shall subject the player to a fine of $30,000 per day, plus one week’s regular season salary for each preseason game missed.
nfllabor.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/collective-bargaining-agreement-2011-2020.pdfIt appears that the allowable fine amount has been upped, but what I didn't know was regarding the regular season game-day check forfeiture for each preseason game missed due to not reporting.

That’s why it requires advance prep work to put yourself in position to do it, and that means being in a cap position where you can offer a close-to-open-market offer following Year 4 while at the same time being able to pay PR, Henry and others.

Don't get me wrong, I would cut off my ding dong agent's hand o sign for 10 million dollars. It sure seems like he should after PS 4---before game 1.

The CBA allows for fining the player a regular season game check for missing a preseason game via holdout.....so Gordon would lose game checks for the first 9 games he held out, then the first four games he was back.....expensive decision on his part. Dear Mojo !! You want him to play 6 games, and get 3 low paychecks for it ?!?!?!?!?!?!
It's like the Dark Ages with you people.
I did not write the CBA that the players agreed to, but yea, he gets little money if he holds out until the start of week 10. You want your freedom, it is going to cost you.

Let me tell you what my keen eyes see: Hunter Henry is out of his preseason mind. That man is on a mission. Comeback Player of the Year type of mission. He fights to get open on his routes and has sick ass glue like hands. Reliable outlet man for Rivers. More receiver talent than Heath Miller, he's playing with a Jason Witten type skill set.
Don't worry Hunter, Ol' Freak see's it. I'm feelin' ya.

Yep. It's modern day slavery. And all he has to do is sign on the dotted line for $10 million / year or show up and play for $5.5 million to avoid the Dark Ages. Sigh!!

Yep. It's modern day slavery. Pretty well compensated, regardless of which contract he follows.....unless he decides to withhold services, then that current contract gets painful. Thank you CBA.....
