Excellent observations Freak! I'll try not to rant but- We fans get so frustrated at players who put SELF over team and do things like hold out for more money. And rightfully so sometimes (Gordon). But we same fans also are SO QUICK to abandon lifelong Charger players when they decline (Gates, now Rivers). Where's the loyalty? And the Chargers Organization is IDENTICAL to the common fanbase- they assign a dollar amount to a free agent and won't pay a dime over that (which again is sometimes correct, but sometimes isn't so cut and dried- Tyrell Williams?), they tell players "we'll take care of you after the season" but renege on that after some bad performances, and like common fans they are fickle and quick to forget career-long service on and off the field the instant a flashy new upgrade comes into the realm of possibility. Back to Freak's points- I agree that firstly PR deserves an answer, and then we, the longsuffering fanbase, also deserve to see this resolved correctly. Loyalty??? The NFL is a business first and foremost. Fans want a winning product and Championships, the Chargers have none. These players make millions of dollars playing a game and entertaining me, I owe them nothing. I am a Chargers fan first and player fan second... PR does deserve an answer and he deserves to be treated fairly, thats it. 'ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED". That is the business. People want to be entertained. So the product on the stage needs to be, just like any actor, good at what they do. If you are bad on the stage people will not come, or will boo, or will look somewhere else. if PR has another good year, the fans will not even care how he did this year. I think the loyality is only between the actor and owner based on mutual respect for what each has done. Fan loyality is more about staying with a team or player when things are not going well. The conflict comes when the fans think the player or team is past his prime or a few patches. I think many believe the ability of PR to provide good entertainment when the drama is highest is no longer there. The fans have decided the ownership is beyond a few patches since 2016.

Rivers is also saying EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD YOU TO DO. You front load the hell out of a two year contract. My genius is really simple. I keep it simple for all. "I'm at the 16th hole of an 18 hole golf course." He is gift wrapping a two year offer to them. Front load a two year deal, and draft our future QB this year. which means he will play somewhere. Raiders anyone? Carr sucks. LAS Vegas is a shorter trip that anywhere else. It would not shock me one bit.....Chucky has always loved Rivers.

Rivers will have plenty of clubs inquiring, which is counter to all the 'he is done' talk on here. Hate to see the Bolts make this mistake, but walking from Rivers seems like it is going to happen.

I think he would make Indy an instant Superbowl favorite if he signed with them. Coach, Defense, Oline, competent management, AND A FANBASE... Watch out if this happens...

The season has ended for the Bolts a very short time ago, yet you want the clubs' plan all laid out now....seems premature to me. It is a business, as such, all parts of the equation should be looking out for their own best interests. As players' skills decline, the 'loyalty' aspect matters to the club only from a marketing view. Simply put, the club does not want to 'look bad' when moving on from a long term player. Their season ended a long time ago.

MG III hold out. James out. HH injures 1st game. Cornerstone players for us. Arguably among the most important in both offense and defense.

Those of us that live in San Diego and remember when the Chargers were the SAN DIEGO Chargers as fans still watched because of the few players they had left from the days at Qualcomm and Rivers is really the only one that meant anything to San Diego fans. If he is in fact being "allowed to walk" just like Spanos has done with so many other Charger greats then it makes it very easy to now root for other teams and consider the Chargers just another badly run team like the Browns, Bengals,Cardinals, Dolphins and Redskins.
Until Dean Spanos sells this team people in San Diego will be hard pressed to support this clown show after Rivers is gone....Just my own opinion

We say this EVERY year. When your not going the right way, you change direction! This team needs to change direction, we need a new car AND a new driver.

The Spanos are definetley desperate enough to squeeze out every last bit of fan support and nostalgia from PR. Good post wahoo!
