yep. it started really bad. they were simply not good enough else where to overcome. this is where I think PR started to put the whole team on his shoulders and it cost him and the team. If the Bolts had won you would be crowing about how awesome Rivers was to have put the team on his shoulders......blah blah blah.... Rivers failed, but he was far from alone..... I know you are not a Lynn fan and not to help that, but............... It was very telling that Rivers mentioned (paraphrasing)........"Other teams had problems and overcame them as a TEAM to get wins." That was very very very telling to me. If only me.

Those of us that live in San Diego and remember when the Chargers were the SAN DIEGO Chargers as fans still watched because of the few players they had left from the days at Qualcomm and Rivers is really the only one that meant anything to San Diego fans. If he is in fact being "allowed to walk" just like Spanos has done with so many other Charger greats then it makes it very easy to now root for other teams and consider the Chargers just another badly run team like the Browns, Bengals,Cardinals, Dolphins and Redskins. Until Dean Spanos sells this team people in San Diego will be hard pressed to support this clown show after Rivers is gone....Just my own opinion This is a REALLLLYYYYYY good point and one that I have been ignoring on purpose. The Spanos are definetley desperate enough to squeeze out every last bit of fan support and nostalgia from PR. Good post wahoo! That fan support and nostalgia ends right around 5-11.

I think there was a bit of a battle between Rivers and Lynn over the approach, on several issues. I also get the feeling that there is minimal professional respect. Rivers viewing Lynn as a 'less than' HC, Lynn out to prove Rivers is wrong, creating an unhealthy environment. (when one of you want proof, reference the "get the feeling" part of my sentence). I do not see the above dynamic with a HC such as Gruden, (one reason why Rivers going to Las Vegas would not shock me).....or a Jason Garret led staff. Rivers is part of the problem, but it is a problem that can be corrected by having a strong HC. Lynn is not that type of HC at this point. Ownership should always take the side of the HC over a player, even if it is a mistake, and it is in this case in my view. The retention of Lynn tells me Rivers is gone, and as yappy as Rivers is, it might get ugly in the media.

If the Bolts had won you would be crowing about how awesome Rivers was to have put the team on his shoulders......blah blah blah.... Rivers failed, but he was far from alone..... I have no idea where you get that. I have mentioned PR doing that for several years now. If the bolts have won, I'd be happy with the team as a whole. Too many unknowns on PR's play even in the wins. I'm sure I probably have no issue with the bolts retaining him. I admit PR is the best QB on the team. He is arguably one of the most talented in the league. I have always loved his competitiveness. What this year did for me was to allow me to see that PR is simply not CLUTCH when it is needed. the tale tale signs are there. How many 4th qtr comebacks does he have? He may get us to the final dance off's, but I do not believe he'll ever win pass them. He will spaz out. So I am ready to move on. I'd be delighted to be wrong. That said, I also know it's darn near impossible to find another franchise QB. So I also know you have to try to resign him esp. if you do not have a replacement. However, he is not the future of this team. Guys like Bosa and HH are. they have priority in resigning. So push come to shove, I walk away if I cannot use the savings I believe I need to sign the few other FA's I need on OL and DL to get this team where it needs to be NOW. I think the team is close. Lots of young talent with a few spots needing work and the trenches needing a through overall. Ideally, I'd love to have the Montana / Young or Farve/Rodgers scenarios. So having PR/ X is better. The X of course is really a ?. At this point the Bolts need another QB to be X NOW. they do not have one in Taylor. I have no idea on Stick. Though it looks like he is not the future either.

Yeah, I think it is simply a issue of PR thinks we need to throw to win, Lynn wants to run to win. PR is more correct IMO, since OL struggled to make holes, Gordon killed the momentum Ekler was generating, and all the weapons are in the passing game. even Gordon and Ekler are good pass options. The problem of course was PR had little time to throw and seemed to like deeper routes. Though I also agree Lynn is not ready for prime time. The team does not respond to his leadership. not good

I went back to double check. PR has 27 comeback wins in 15 years. Tied with Eli at 13th. Not too bad, Farve had 28 in 19 years. Ben 31 in 15 years. Matty ice had 31 in 11 years. link

Sad to see Rivers go, he's HOF for sure. I can only hope they get a guy that somewhat matches his talent and dedication.

Of course when guys like Tannehill beat the Patriots, it makes you wonder if the QB is really that important.

Of course when guys like Tannehill beat the Patriots, it makes you wonder if the QB is really that important. Not if you have the right other pieces. They have to be decent though. Pats Offense is 2 people. So there is that.
