A wise person once said "What's done is done." So without further ado here are my closing thoughts on last nights first round of the draft: - I would've rather have taken a few other players more highly rated at a PON than take Herbert who was not as highly rated just because QB was the bigger PON.
- I love Kenneth Murray! I didn't spend too much time over-analyzing him because he was never really a consideration for pick six and who could've guessed TT would trade back into round one?
- The 'cost' of trading up for him notwithstanding, I love that he's on our team- a great player and an even better character!
- I felt this year's draft was MORE talent-filled than most years. Giving up picks wasn't something I wanted for us. But again, I love the player we moved up for!
Turning the page now, because I am a homer- Wow, how did we steal the best offensive player AND the best defensive player in this draft??? Herbert is built like he was constructed in a QB lab with great size, mobility and smarts! And he has a high character, four years of injury-free experience at a big time program and maturity beyond his years. The flaws in his game stem from playing college ball, and with experience in a pro offense and with full time, specific QB coaching he's gonna grow into a franchise QB- almost reminiscent of Philip Rivers first year or so on the Chargers! (Rivers may not be a bad comparison- how many kids does Herbert have??) Murray is a stud! He has sideline to sideline speed, aggressiveness, and specific-position experience playing Line Backer! And he has high character, leadership, years of experience in a big time program, and he knows CPR. After further review- and even being disappointed in the predraft possibilities that actually became real but we still chose not to do things my way- I am glad for our first round selections and hope they give the Chargers the missing pieces to win Super Bowls.

I said it had to be done. It did have to be done. Then it was done. I can't help it !!!!! Hell, I might AGREE with you that some of these guys like Simmons were better talent than Herbert. That positional value coupled with PON was just way more than Telesco or any other GM could bear. There was really zero choice. There were plenty of choices...... Bolts walked away from better talent to address a need, Herbert has talent, but this feels like a reach..... If the 6th overall pick cannot beat out Taylor, God help us all..... i think that is a bit much. He was a PON at BPA per the bolts. For him to be a reach, the BPA portion would have to have been weaker. It isn't. the kid has the talent. It will be the little things in the NFL level of play that will make the difference

Time proved that to be a reach pick that did not work out and help create the problems on the OL to this day. Buluga is average and is still an upgrade over Tevi & Scott. With picks in round 1-3 spent I can't see any OL help coming that will be able to start over Pipkins at LT. Guess the silver lining is both Tyrod & Herbert are mobile but we need to hope they can be accurate on the run and not just tuck it and run panic mode. Are there any Tackles left in free agency ? I mean, at least average ones anyway ?

i get the herbert pick as I think about it more. QB was PON. herbert fit that. But with the first pick you have to have BPA included. So get the BPA who fits our Positions of need the most. The Bolts saw Herbert as that fit. To be fair Simmons would of been a bit of a luxury pick, but a damn good one. It would have set the D up for several years. Murry has good speed and cover side line to side line. Speed makes a D nasty. It's a good move. That's a damn good definition. Hybrid versatility is very desired today. DC's LOVE them. But when you are the GM, first round picks have to have some solidity to them. Grounded solid pick minimum is the goal. I'll take that solid pure position guy all day long versus hybrid when my butt is on the line as GM. I told you Murray was the Simmons consolation prize. He lines up all over the first level on the defense. You will end up liking him. His sideline to sideline film alone is Crazy. I like the Murray pick a lot. I also read that it is a fair trade with the pick/value/numbers game. More importantly, I don't think there would be anyone of similar talent available at pick #37. Someone said it best, The Chargers picked two QB's in the first round; one for O's and one for Xs.

Any good RB's in the 4th?? I'd still like a RB... That position has really dropped over the years. There should be some when we go early in the fourth. That damn KC took the LSU RB with the last pick of the first round. KC is really starting to piss me off. Soft rival, they are now a target for our squad. Elevate our game.

The OL needs the help more than the LB group, but Murray will be great, so on we go, eh

That was a major factor in selling the Chargers franchise on PR back in 2004.
