We can afford MW and his high yards per reception this year. Health is a roll of the dice. Next year, we'll see how this year plays out. Prudent. Bunch a pissants in da house.I'd say the WR's we drafted last year were def a disappointment... I'm still on the Tyron Johnson bandwagon though, I think its just me and I'm driving to McDonald's for some job applications... What level of expectation did you have for a 5th round and a 7th round draft pick that they could actually disappoint in their rookie seasons?

Not much for Reed honestly, I can't remember the last time we had a good return specialist. I was hoping KJ Hill could show strong #2 potential but yea no...

Joe McRug is convinced they will re-work that contract. But I don't know the cutoffs for that stuff. June something ?? IDK No, I am hopeful. Is there a deadline for that ?

Is there a deadline for that ? No deadline, but the value of an extension in regard to 2021 cap space diminishes as time goes on.

It’s certainly possible that they extend MW to reduce cap hit but I doubt it. 1, they have cap room now and probably don’t need to create more unless they want to a) have more room to sign FAs/camp cuts, or b) roll over more cap for a bigger spend next year on some targeted players/positions. 2, this is probably a prove-it year for MW where the staff will see if he can stay healthy and be productive in the new offense, especially considering cost to value.

I just don’t see it, MW and his people will sit tight and either force the chargers to pay the 15m this year or cut him, and they won’t cut him, especially because palmer needs time and because he should net the chargers a high compensatory pick in 2023. It’s a win win for both sides, the chargers will expect top production from MWs in a contract year and he’ll get his 15m and play for a huge payday in the 2022 offseason. The better he plays, the bigger the deal he'll get and the higher the compensatory pick the chargers will receive. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that it could even go as high as a 3rd rounder, more like a 4rth or 5th. He is still someone that helps open up the offense and that makes life easier for herbert in 2021. They’ll pay him the 15m this year and move on from him in 2022, I just don’t see him getting a big extension from the chargers and why would he want one? Especially when the possibility of him getting more than kenny golladay in 2022 looms around the corner? If I’m his agent I’m telling him not to sign any extensions this year.

The $15 million is set in stone because the deadline to cut him and avoid the $$$ was a few weeks before the draft. I am hopeful that he’d like to stay with the very young franchise QB, but like you I see an extension as being unlikely - especially in light of the Palmer draft selection.
