Bobby Ross was an assistant coach for the KC Chiefs from 1978 - 1981 under HOFer Marv Levy where he coached special teams, RB’s and QB’s during those four seasons. He then returned to the college ranks as a head coach. Harbaugh grew up as well the son of a career-NFL assistant coach, played a decade in the NFL and was the Raiders QB coach for two seasons (2002-2003) before taking the USD head coaching job. Since Jimmy Johnson arrived in Dallas, there hasn’t been another example of a successful transition of a college head coach to NFL head coach who had no NFL experience. Perhaps Meyer will be different, but the Tebow signing isn’t a harbinger of good things to come IMO. Are you a great coach or not probably matter more than whether you were an assistant in the NFL. Coryell wasn’t either Coryell was a long time ago - it’s almost a half century ago when the Cardinals signed him as their head coach. Look at the last 20 years: the NFL doesn’t even look at coaches with no NFL experience when conducting their head coaching searches. The college coaches that have been hired have all had NFL staff experience because operating a professional franchise versus a college program are entirely different animals. The only exception has been Steve Spurrier (who actually did play in the NFL) as a high profile signing by the Redskins which was an abysmal failure. Even Johnson was an unusual case because he was a college teammate with the owner. We’ll see if Meyer can prove to be a major exception, but I don’t see the Tebow signing will prove to be a smart move in operating a franchise filled with young professional athletes, but I see far more negatives than positives.

Your second sentence may have more to do with it than anything
