I know its the NBA but let me introduce you to Magic Johnson the power forward from point guard... I'm sure there are also a few examples in the NFL I can't think of. Moving from QB to TE when you are in your 30's when you have never played any position other than QB from the time you started playing as a youngster was nothing but a publicity stunt. It was 100% bound to fail. Yes, QB's have moved to TE during college and when they have entered the NFL in their young 20's - never happened when a player has tried switching those positions as he nears retirement age for the position. And for the record: Magic Johnson was a point guard for Michigan State all three years he was there. www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2021-02-17/earvin-magic-johnson-college-basketball-stats-best-moments-quotesNow you have people calling out the race card, others saying he was axed because he is a Christian, others PO'd because they bought his Jacksonville jersey & he is (inevitably) axed after one laughable preseason game, etc., etc., etc. This is a self-own by rookie professional football coach who does not need this distraction as he attempts to prepare a 1-15 team for the upcoming season.
The distraction ended in the first round of cuts.

They didn't switch positions, but retirement comebacks include: Marshawn Lynch Randy Moss Ricky Williams Deion Sanders Reggie White Another memorable NFL retirement comeback with a great quote:

Did racism prevent them from playing Football and Baseball? No... Tebow tried to play Baseball, is that situation different? I think we can all call out the BS that is ESPN and their reporting... Does racism exist? Sure... Has racism played a role in sports in the past? absolutely... Does Tebow playing 1 preseason game for the Jags mean anything in regards to race? Laughably no... I hate ESPN.

Another memorable NFL retirement comeback with a great quote: HA !!!! Brett Farve was another. And another where I attended his "graduation ceremony" at Chargers Park with the great Dick Enberg emceeing: the late great Junior Seau ... whose retirement lasted all of three days before evil Billy B swept him off his feet.

First take on ESPN tried to turn it into a race thing this morning. "A black player, no matter how popular would never get a tryout at the highest level at a position they have never played before at that age". I know its the NBA but let me introduce you to Magic Johnson the power forward from point guard... I'm sure there are also a few examples in the NFL I can't think of. Apples to Oranges comparison. Much more ambiguity with positions in the NBA. Magic was always a point guard/forward just like Lebron. QB to TE especially after an 8 year hiatus has no NBA comparison.

When Kareem got hurt in the Finals, Magic played Center. Played it well too. I thought that was pretty spiffy.
