Why are people clamoring for Merrill? What do you see that the coaches don’t?LOL! A ton of shit they have no need to know.
Regards Merrill, he's a plugger at the LOS. Joseph is the only guy that holds up as well. Apparently rushing yards aren't Staley's greatest concern. Gaziano doesn't plug the LOS as well, does get QB pressure and plays a larger field in pursuit of a ball carrier.
It's about how Staley wants to defend vs Turds. Priority no. 1, QB pressure.
The staley plan has worked, twice keeping explosive passers to lower yardage totals and minimizing chunk passing plays and scoring. I think the chargers are 7th in passing yards allowed? Hopefully with justin jones back and the replacement of banks (he was awful) the rotation will stay more fresh and the talent will be elevated. The run defense hopefully will improve.

Staley has implied that run yds allowed are a technique & execution issue. We may get better with no major changes. I'll be happy if allow 24 pts or less and score 30 or more.  Improve on the LAC at KC scoring. |

Plus the first two weeks they played teams that run the ball and WFT have solid offensive line and the cowboys have a really good offensive line and KC is beginning to emphasize the run behind a revamped line that is being built specifically to improve their run game. It’s also still early and the guys are still acclimating to staley’s system. K9 in particular has struggled with reads then harris missed time, banks underperformed, it’s been a host of things. the other thing to keep in mind is the sample size, it’s not like they’re 32nd in run defense going into the final week of the season. They should improve on those numbers as the season wears on and they begin to play better as a unit.

We have good reason to believe the team will improve as the season goes on. New coaches, new system. Wins breed full buy in. Beat the Raiders.

A player goes undrafted for a reason, and that reason rarely is the 32 clubs all missed. Except when they do. Gates is a classic example. HOF TE all 32 passed on. Ekeler is a little more down to earth quality UDFA. Starting CB Mike Davis, starting LG Matt Feiler are pretty good UDFAs also. But the other side of the equation is thousands of UDFA's that never succeeded....... The scouting system is pretty darn accurate, but certainly not perfect.

Sounds like K9 got hurt in practice! I wonder if it’s same high ankle sprain he’s been dealing with since fan fest :0
I’m thinking they might activate cole christiansen from the practice squad to help pick up the slack on special teams because nick nieman becomes tranquels primary backup if K9 is out, even ogbogbemiga might get snaps on defense :0

Kenneth Murray placed on IR He cranked his ankle three times over the past 7 weeks starting with the intrasquad scrimmage. They need to give it time to fully heal. Tranquil has been playing great, so it’s time to really step it up. |

By signing merrill to active roster they clearly prefer merrill over fehoko. Fehoko has also been activated for this one game but he’ll revert back to the practice squad on tuesday.
