Unpopular opinion: I'm vehemently opposed to trading any picks away this year. There is nothing wrong with your opinion, sir. However, I offer you this: Your stance tends to show you would never trade picks for players. When you are 4-1, and just get shredded, and go 4-2 I ask WHEN is the right time to get us help to propel into the playoffs ? 1-5, not trade picks we need them next year. 2-4, no we need the picks. 4-2, no we need the picks. Clearly you would never do it. That goes for lightsout42. Tell him don't even bother replying. I'm right. I'm always right. He knows it too.

I’m all for adding veteran DL talent for a 6th or 7th rounder dependent upon which veteran it is. Defin. Go get me a tackling machine LB too. Or save the picks and I'll give you Pipkins and Murray for them.

I would trade for players if 1) the opportunity was there, 2) if the cost was acceptable, and 3) the move(s) were likely to make a positive difference for the term of the contract of the acquired player(s). But my opinion isn’t the one driving the strategy in the team’s front office. And none of us know what they will do. FWIW if we were just one or two players away from being a SB contender I would bias harder towards mid-season moves. But the Chargers just are not, in my view, a contender or a balanced team. It’s a good team that is probably over-performing, but not very balanced. There are too many problems that are, to me, group-level talent vacuums (the DL, the right OL, special teams, maybe even some coaching—I’m not sold on Lombardi and Swinton, and cautious about Staley’s run defense, but think it’s probably more talent than scheme/playcalling, at least for now). I am excited for the future and hope to see continued progress. |

Given the recent information about your advanced age, it now makes much more sense. I can understand why you are all in for the short game and win now mentality. If I were in your shoes, I would think the same way. Seeing that I plan on being a fan for the foreseeable future I prefer a more measured approach that accounts for both today's roster and the future as well.
