Lou brock passed away Sept 6th, now his best friend and team mate Bob Gibson follows. Such great careers for those guys. My first real baseball glove was a Rawlings Bob Gibson. I briefly met Bob Gibson in Omaha when I was a fellow page with his daughter at an AKSARBEN pageant (charitable foundation based in Omaha - Nebraska spelled backwards) in 1971 when my father was stationed at Offutt AFB. The photo my Mom has with 11-year-old me wearing a Renaissance era robe, head covering, tights and black women dress shoes is one that can result in a handsome ransom payoff to keep it from public disclosure. Gibson was absolutely a larger than life figure who defined toughness on the mound and who was also a great basketball player who started at Creighton and played a year on the Harlem Globetrotters before turning to baseball as a profession. He passed on the 52nd anniversary of perhaps the most dominant World Series pitching performance of all-time: the 1968 Game 1 shutout over the Tigers where he struck out 17 batters. And that followed up his 1968 season where he completed 28 of his 34 starts, 22 wins and 9 losses (somehow!), 13 shutouts, 268 strikeouts and a 1.12 ERA. Somebody pointed out this very lengthy & insightful 40 year old article about that game and Gibson as a man. It's fantastic reading, and you won't need to subscribe to the New Yorker to read it. www.newyorker.com/magazine/1980/09/22/distanceRIP Mr. Gibson! Rod Carew tells a story about the first time he faced Gibson. 😆

Speaking about the “other” SoCal team, Shoehei Ohtani is doing something that hasn’t been seen since Babe Ruth. Leading the majors in HR’s and look at the filth he is dealing on the mound in the video. www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/31342168

Good feature on NFL Today (NFL Network) on Joey Bosa discussing his routine for Mental Health Awareness Month.
Bosa talks about the tough time he was having when attempting to get back into training while experiencing pain a couple of off-seasons ago where he was snapping back at people he cares about. He started seeing a therapist once a week and continues that to this day while meditating twice a day to clear his mind.

Woodeye, the Santa Clara women’s soccer team just won the national championship after beating #1 Florida State in a shootout following a 1-1 tie. They beat #2 North Carolina in the semis of the tournament that was held in Chapel Hill. 🍺

It remains to be seen if the majority of tickets will be used by Chargers fans (I can assure you that four will) or if they’ll be resold on the secondary market to out-of-town fans.
