NFL 360 on NFL Network tonight at 6 PM and 10 PM is a look back at 9/11 twenty years later. They showed a cut from the show about Jim Fassel and the Giants. Coming off their first game following a Super Bowl appearance (Monday night game at Denver), the team was on their plane on the tarmac after arrival when they saw the jet fly into Tower 2. Powerful stuff! 😔

It remains to be seen if the majority of tickets will be used by Chargers fans (I can assure you that four will) or if they’ll be resold on the secondary market to out-of-town fans. Win, and the sea shall turn BLUE.

Never forget Speedy’s 100 yard INT return against the chiefs in either 65 or 66, I was a little kid but it’s a memory etched in my brain. Maybe it was 67???

RIP Meat…this will always be one of my favorites.
I’m so glad to have seen you perform this live, and can say you did it with everything you had.

Ran across this on Quora from a sports writer in North Carolina. I knew we had historically bad special teams back then, but damn didn't know they single handedly sank our season. Couldn't find a special teams thread to post in, so here it is:
Was Green Bay's playoff loss to the 49ers due to one of the worst special teams play in NFL playoff history?
This is a lesson so many in American football never seem to learn. The special teams matter.
There’s a popular video on YouTube about the most atrocious special teams failure in the history of football. The 2010 San Diego Chargers gained the most yardage in the league and allowed the fewest, but went 9–7 and missed the playoffs. The reason for this was they blew five games on special teams breakdowns.
That is the most obscene example of neglecting this segment of the game and paying the price, but we’ve seen it elsewhere. Bobby Bowden probably missed out on a few national championships because of his kickers going “wide right” on easy field goals. Nick Saban missed out on two more shots at a national title because of losses to Auburn caused by failures on special teams.
The Packers lost 10 points to San Francisco due to bad special teams play, getting a field goal blocked and then a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown. Instead of being ahead 13–3 when San Francisco mounted its last drive, the score was 10–10. In the conditions the teams were playing in, no one was likely to score a lot. Pissing away 10 points was likely to be fatal, and it was.
The Packers brought this on themselves. And they will probably lose Aaron Rodgers now. Why should he even play for a team capable of losing a game this way? Some people will say he had a role in the loss, since Green Bay only got 10 points, but he played well and the conditions were not conducive to big offense. No one’s lighting it up when it’s 11 degrees (-12C outside the USA) and snowing. The 49er passing game was struggling so much they didn’t even want to throw the ball. Jimmy Garoppolo is who he is, and on top of that, his first five passes of the game were all dropped. The only way they were going to win was to exploit some weakness in the Packers. According to the announcers, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan even told them beforehand that he had the advantage in special teams.
And he took that advantage and he beat the Packers into submission with it.

Good day, everyone. I hope that all are doing well and in somewhat of a good mood (football-wise) after the last week has unfolded.
The offseason is normally my slow time of the year to begin with (I'm not a draftnik), but I needed to take a break for multiple reasons following the absolutely excruciating ultimate-roller-coaster end to last season. About a month ago I decided that I would wait until the start of free agency before emerging from hibernation, and I was tempted to break that decision as the signings / trades unfolded but ended up sticking to my guns.
I'll start looking through the threads tonight as I ease back into the flow, but my main observation of recent events is that this isn't your old Chargers franchise from the past couple of decades. I am happy to see that TT (no doubt with the huge encouragement from Staley) has committed to fully maximize our franchise future's rookie contract and make a run at the ring over the next couple of seasons. Here's to 2022!! 🍺
On a much more somber note, if you are so inclined please say a prayer for our good friend Terry / Chargeroo and his wife Arlene. Unfortunately, the cancer that Terry was treated for last year has returned and it has been deemed to be terminal. Terry is comforted at this time by his great faith and does not seem to be in pain as he is approaching hospice in the not-too-distant future. 🙏

Prayers for him and those that he will leave. May God welcome him with open arms! As far as the TT maximizing comment, it got me wondering. Was there a stalemate in philosophies between TT and J Spanos, and with the arrival of Staley, one philosophy became 'the one'.....clearly a more aggressive one. Welcome back, looking forward to your helping Freak follow the correct path.
