This defense is awesome indeed! On paper, I have never seen a better Chargers defense. It is SO exciting !!! Yes! They haven't played a game yet but..... dammit, they look ready for a SB run. The 2022 defense should be very dangerous. Sacks, forced punts, forced fumbles, Ints, give the ball to Herbert & the offense!
Oh Yeah!

you want to crown their asses, crown their asses. Are they who you think they are? Show me... Even if a couple don't play to their contract I think we signed enough quality vets to make a big improvement from last year. Its not like before where TT makes one big splash and the guy is worthless, "should" be much different this year.

you want to crown their asses, crown their asses. Are they who you think they are? Show me... Winning a Championship takes.... Talent.....the starting talent is solid, depth still a ? Health..... ? Luck...... ? There is only one of those three that can be controlled to any extent. TT has the roster on the right path, but the Chargers are not the only roster on that path. Which club gets Health and Luck....

There were less holes on those defenses than the current paper version once you get past a certain Marlon McCree's misguided play in the playoffs and Teflon Jeff's hit job on Merriman. 😡

We have yet to play a game, sure... But, this defense not performing would be the biggest story of the season. I just don't see that happening.

2006 was definitely better at RB, FB, TE, NT. I prefer the 2022 QB, WRs, C, LT, Van Noy vs Edwards and the DBs.
Every season depends on an element of luck and good health. Get used to it and build depth. We appear to be on a good path w/ depth. Not perfect (but who is?).

The answer is one is based on on-field performance and the other is on paper. As you have complained, the interior LB corps is less than average. Normally that would be an arrow to the heart of any defense (it would have been to the 2006 & 2007 defenses), but perhaps Staley’s scheme truly doesn’t need anything above ordinary NFL LB’s. I’m not going to say “crown their ass” ala Denny Green, but I’m not going to proclaim they are better before even seeing them in training camp. Hopefully they’ll have joint practices against the Niners again come August.
